Dear Fonts, I've searched for quiet helmet, but got a few strange results:eek
I currently have a Carberg Justissimo, which is ok but noisy. I would like to invest in a better lid and so seek opinions please?:D

Invest in some good, made to measure, ear plugs instead.

Yep, already done. (Ultimate Ear). Still got a problem. NEC show on Monday so advice here might lead to a purchase. I've tried a Roof helmet belonging to a mate for the last two days and that is a dramatic improvement. I've also heard that a Schuberth S1 is very quiet. There must be some good recommendations on here.

you can have my spare lid if you want. its the quietest lid ive ever had. In fact in the 18 months i've had it, its never said a word...:hide

I have a shuberth s1 and yes it's quiet. Not ultra quiet though but better than any other helmet I have owned. One side effect though is it seems to filter high frequency noises more than low.

Schuberth again !!

Another recommendation for the S1 Pro. Got mine from Tinternet after getting sized up in a Schuberth dealer shop and made a nice little saving.

Someone posted on here recently that the collar on a jacket makes a big difference compared to no collar.

Also there is the fit. some can wear 1 manufacturer and not another due to their head shape.

I also doubt that there is the perfect quiet helmet.

Good luck and let us know.

I have a Schuberth S1, it is better than the Arai's etc. I had before, but not by a huge margin. I think one of the reasons is the way the base comes around under your head more on these lids.

One downside of the Schuberth is it is huge, I don't notice the weight as being more than last lid, but it would not fit in my old V35 panniers, and on the GS it will only go in the larger pannier (with it fully expanded) and is a real squeeze in the Vario top box.

On the Womans lid we got one of those bases that go around the bottom of the lid, she really rated this for cutting down noise, I reckon you may be as well to get the lid you prefer and fit one of these / use decent earplugs.

Invest in some cheap disposable earplugs. Much better noise attenuation than expensive made to measure jobbies.

SChuberth S1 Pro... quiet and none of the leak problems some people have mentioned. Would definitely buy again.

or so they say, i have a brand new one for sale normally £449 for £290 posted
xl 60/61 in glossy black mmmm, see for sale section

Right, had the Schuberth S1, S1 Pro, Arai Tour X3, AirohS4, Shoei Hornet, C3 & Mulitec....the lid I always go back to for long distance work is my Shoei Qwest. By far the best lid I have had for quietness, comfort, lightness, quality, ability to add comms and price.

Yes it is boring but have done all day stints, long high speed runs in 35c heat...by far the best...with half decent earplugs, putting the visor down into the locked position is like turning to sound off.

Pablo1, I'm a medium, and want to get away from a flip front. So thanks for the suggestion, but not my cup of tea.

Well, at the show, and after lots of discussions and reading reviews and try outs, I've opted for Shoei XR1100. I will report on how I find it in due course. I do agree though, that it's a combination of bike, screen, rider position and jacket and clothing that needs consideration. I've started with the lid and will adjust others as appropriate in time. I've had the 1150 for 4 years and its not all bad!

I'm currently running a Schuberth C3, which I find to be pretty good. But previously I had a Shoei XR1000 (predecessor to the XR1100), and that was a very good, quiet helmet, especially with the chin curtain and whisper strip fitted. Definitely a recommended mod if quietness is a priority (although it can get a bit warm in the summer if you leave it on). :thumb2

i was looking at the same lid at the nec but the cost was way to high so got a shoei that fitted good and was on deal for a 150 with a black visor
was i wont pay over 150 for a new lid.
