Recomend me a new set of boots

I had a pair of Altbergs, and very comfortable they were too. But there was no shin protection, and I felt that I value my shins and ankles enough to buy a pair of Daytonas. Very happy with these, although I removed the shiny steel toe-caps cos they were slippy. Very comfortable, very waterproof, but squeaky when walking - I can live that.

Sold the Altbergs as I already had some other walking boots.

you have to buy Daytona GTX had mine for three years and worn in torrential rain for upto 12 hours a day and are the only boots that I have found to be anything like waterproof...........mine are due for a new soles £55 refurb sounds good where's that done I would be interested:D :D

My current boots:
BMW Contour (Goretex), used by the Police over here
&
Hein Gericke Bullson Manx (Sheltex, almost identical to Goretex)

Both great fit and absolutely waterproof. The BMW is a full height boot, the HG is a lower model used when I have to go to clients (I'm an Art Director), fits neatly under my suit.
Different purposes, different boots.

Do the Altberg boots come with armour, I have checked out the website and they seem good boots but have they got the same sort of protection as a Daytona?

Thanks for your help guys.

Nick

Nah Nick You is right. Altbergs are crap. Buy the Daytonas

(The bloody lead times at Altberg are bad enough already)

BUY DAYTONAS !!!!

Has to be Daytona.

Had a pair of Travelstar? GTX for 2 and a bit years, 40k miles, in all weathers.
Waterproof and, so far, road-proof. Crashed in them 3 times, and have had a milk tanker run over my foot whilst wearing them.
Still have a functional pair of feet, so they get my vote every time!

Oh and just for Bakerman and Greg - I was wearing the boots, not the milk tanker...:p

Try Altberg in Richmond, Yorkshire, they have a web sie, their Clubman boots are 100 % waterproof and I have had my last pair for 7 years plus. they do a made to measure service at no extra cost and can take into account thick thighs wide fittings etc. They are very good and most of the northern ploice forces use them as do the army etc Usually work out at about £100 to £120 per pair

It's got to be the Daytona Road Star GTX - these are the only boots I've ever owned that I can really say are 100% waterproof and really comfortable (probably due to the amaxing adjustment possibilities at the calf).

Altbergs - they work brilliantly and they'll make them to measure if you need it. Altbergs do come with armour. Visit the factory and get fitted.

Daytona Roadstar GTX

I might have a penchant for cheap summer gloves but can only echo the endorsements of other posts about these boots. Close your eyes and wedge-up, they're worth every penny. Also note the Daytonas has a steel inlay. As a long term XT600 Tenere owner you need a decent soul for kicking these into life on a freezing February morning. If you're wearing them day in day out they can start to hum like toasted docelatta on ciabatta but a regular squirt of scholl shoe spray chases the cheese away. slip a tesco bag over the tops when you get to the office and always wear decent socks beacuse your feet will get warm if you spend time wearing them indoors.

Evidence base:- warmside inside, furside outside

Equipoise? Would you say?

When Bryan O'Lynn had no shirt to put on,
He took him a sheep skin to make him a' one.
"With the skinny side out, and the wooly side in,
'Twill be warm and convanient," said Bryan O'Lynn.
- Old Song, Old Irish Song

There's a skin without and a skin within,
A covering skin and a lining skin,
But the skin within is the skin without
Doubled and carried complete throughout.
- Power of Atherstone

He killed the noble Mudjokivis.
Of the skin he made him mittens,
Made them with the fur side inside,
Made them with the skin side outside.
He, to get the warm side inside,
Put the inside skin side outside.
He, to get the cold side outside,
Put the warm side fur side inside.
That's why he put the fur side inside,
Why he put the skin side outside,
Why he turned them inside outside.

Kangaroo vs beaver

Daytona make a great claims about the kangaroo hide on their boots. Kangaroo hide does indeed sport enviable tribological coefficients in all tests to date.

But...and here's the rub. It can't stand up against the gold standard....Beaver-tail.

Here's one of my handcrafted special beaver tail specials.

The stacked heel is handy too. For confidence building on those "shrunken inseam" Monday mornings.

Here's an example. BMW issue . They don't leak and even better they don't "suck". About 7 years old now.

(A lot of Goretex footwear can breathe only after half an hour on Ventolin and a snorkel down the trouser leg to let the evil toe gas escape.....these are a rare exception....the multiple brag tags did not lie.) A good buy.

Smokers! Future proof your boots!

Imagine a future without dry land. A future where the earth, covered in water, has evolved into a gritty, nautical society held together by determination and ingenuity.

Centuries of global warming have caused the polar ice caps to melt, flooding the earth as civilization is left adrift. For the survivors, one chance remains:
