Hi All,

I'm thinking about these Daytona Road Stars :-

http://www.biker-land.de/Boots/waterproof/DAYTONA-ROAD-STAR-GTX.html

The only thing that's putting me off is the price of them, best I've seen in the UK is about £330, whereas this German site, Biker-land can do them shipped for about £250.

I have no doubt they are cracking quality but are they really worth over 300 quid ?, or does anyone know where I can get them cheaper?

Have a look here

Very similar style to the Daytonas but substantially cheaper. Uk made and very well thought of. Do a search on here for more opinions.

I was looking at the Daytonas but was also put off by the price. I bought one of the first pairs of Roadrunners this spring and have done about 10k in them so far. FWIW I love them and expect them to last and last.

FWIW I got a pair for £120 from Ebay. Admittedly they were an older model but were as new. Apparently someone bought them for a bike course and never used them again.

I appreciate that it was a case of 'right place/ right time' but worth a quite look as you might be lucky.

Altbergs for me too - had mine six years, never leaked a drop on the bike, and toasty warm for walking in Finland. Keep them in shape with loads of black dubbins.

I've got Daytona trans open gtx and have done over 40k miles with them over the past 14 months. Of all the kit that I have, they are the one thing I never think about....they keep dry, they keep warm, they keep cool, they're more comfortable than my slippers etc. For that reason, they are the best bit of kit I have. The only concession is that I wear thermal socks for sub zero temperatures.

Yes, they are expensive but they last far longer than any other equivalent and can be completely rebuilt by the manufacturer to as new condition for £100 so they should last forever (Trigger's broom comes to mind).

Daytona Travel Star GTX for me. For the reasons already stated.

Got mine new for £220 - a huge saving.

So, so comfortable. If most of Plod uses them and they spend WAY more time than your or I on a bike in all weathers, there must be something in them.

My mate has a pair of those Daytona boots and they have never ever let any water in. I bought a similar pair which are like slippers and again have remained 100% dry in torrential rain.
The Motorad Central deal looks fantastic too:thumb2

Schtum, that looks a good price, thanks for the link :thumb2 I will investigate that one!

The Bluson boots at HG start from around £80 and are waterproof and warm. May not have the "image" of other boots but they work. What more can you ask.
Gor-tex in a boot is an excuse for using sub-standard outer materials and hen charging you a fortune for the privilege.

Another Altberg fan......

Poucher....Have a breezy autumn ride down to Richmond and have a look in at Altberg. You can have a quick squint at their range and if you like them, they will measure your feet and make you a pair of top notch boots that will fit perfectly, NEVER let water in and can be re soled as and when.....:)

Note, if you don't like the boots, you can at least have a thrash 'round the Yorkshire Dales.......:thumb

+1 fr alt bergs or if you want summat a bit taller n tougher the sidi adventure boots are also first class imho :beerjug:

+1 for altbergs, i have the clubmans, maybe not stylish but oh so comfy and never leaked a drop

cheers

Water proof boots

My brother and I have just bought a pair of TCX Infinity boots each from Get Geared in Leeds. TCX were doing them on their reboot scheme for £179.99. This is a saving of £50.00 on the normal price. Rodger who is the manager could not have been more helpful. So far I am very impressed with them. It has not rained too heavy so far, just normal Yorkshire Autumn rain (this is a major storm down south) but not had wet feet yet. They are leather so taking a bit of breaking in. After two weeks they are starting to become very comfortable. So yeah I would recomend them.

+1 for my Altberg Clubmans. 12k in them and never leaked. Trick is to use the wax they send with it once a month.

Buy Them!

Hello

I bought a pair of Daytonas in 1999 and they 'lasted' 10 years before I needed to replace them. Replaced them towards the end of 2009 with a pair of... Daytona Roas Stars (the equivalent model).

I practically ride daily (since 2002 I've averaged at least 100 miles per day) and I don't think I'd buy anything else. They're warm & comfy, you can wear them all day long without issue, and in 2008 when my old ones were pretty knackered, I rode to Magny Cours in peeing rain all the way with around 8 friends. I was the only one with dry feet at the end of the ride.

Can't recommend them highly enough. Even if my current pair only lasts 5 years.

Treat yourself. Your tootsies will love you for as long as you wear the boots!

Good luck! :aidan

My wife has had her Altberg clubmans for 12 years - she commuted and wore them for work for 5 years and now wears them for mainly winter ride outs (she has another pair of lighter weight Altbergs). They are still as good as new and have never let a drop of water in.
I also have a pair - just not as old.
