Had a yuasa put in at the tire shop when my bike wouldn't start outside.. About 18 months ago.. It was a fill it with acid type, and i wasnt there long enough for it to be charged properly, i am now experiencing sluggish turnover, and today when plugged into the optimate it went into recovery

So are motobatt any good, and if so which model to go for.. Also does anything need modification to fit it?
2010 1200 gas

Bike show tomorrow so may be a discount to be had

Personally I would avoid Motobatt I had one on my Kettle. Six months old and the case split causing a lot of damage to chrome parts.
With batteries as anything else, you get what you pay for.
I am surprised you had a problem with a Yuasa.
I would go for an Odyssey. Expensive but in my opinion worth it.
.

Odyssey are crap and once left cold do not recharge.. Motobatt all the way:thumb2

You can charge them cold but you need to fool them by using a full secondary battery. Can't remember how I rescued my one but it's flat again due me leaving the spots on again. I'll post next tuesday when I try and get it going but it can be done...

if the optimate is in recovery mode it must think the battery has a chance

is your problem the battery or the charging circuit? Checked the earth isn't loose or corroded: quite common after 7 years? Do you do enough miles to recharge the battery between charges?

Are you somewhere foreign as you misspelled tyre? Whatever you buy, get an AGM battery, preferably the type that is sealed in the factory and fully charged.

By the way, most batteries that need acid adding at point of sale are in a fully charged state. They just need half an hour to equalise after the acid is added.

My original battery failed at 3 years old so I bought a Yuasa from a local motor factors (£26) and it's still ok six years on. I use the bike all year round and it never fails to start. (15/40 oil). Why waste money on Odyssey etc.
Incidentally some Mercedes (maybe other makes) auxiliary batteries fit 1200GS. Bit of useless info there.

Thanks for the advice, If i Can get a motobatt at the show tomorrow I will do, else play it by ear.. is it worth getting the bigger Motobatt the MBYZ16 that I've seen mentioned, or will the MBTX12U do the job well enough?

Thanks

Paul

You're wasting your money. Yuasa is fine and if you are still worried just connect an Optimate when the bike is not being used.

You can get a Motobatt for around £50. I've had one on my bike for 5 years. It lives outside all year here and spends a lot of time in containers to and from the US so may not be started for 4/5 weeks. It's never been on an optimate and has never let me down. Great battery IMHO and nothing better for teh money.

Is there a larger battery that will fit if you remove the spacer? Just seems like a lot of wasted space.

Can't remember the complete moniker but if you get the equivalent Motobatt with "16HD" in the model denomination instead of 12 or 14.
I think it has 240cca

MotoBatt Quadflex. Full Stop. The End. Best battery I've ever used. Has more cranking power and you can leave it ages and it will start first time. Plus you have 4 terminals so you won't overcrowd them with accessories.

MotoBatt here too. I just love the extra two terminals it has, so handy for connecting accessories to.

If you want a Barrett small enough to put under petrol tank then go for LiFePo. Otherwise Motobatt.
I bought a nearly new used Odyssey. It's nice but ****in heavy and there's really no need for something so big. When the Panda battery fails I'll have an excuse to get a Shorai or Ballistic.

Sent somehow.
