I need a decent sleep mat , both Expeds have died , the spare one I bought has a leak on the valve , exped not interested, second one has had its baffles shit itself . Both now sadly out of warranty . I’ll try ptfe tape on the leaker , sadly the hump back whale is bin material. Just needs rewelding apparently but they can’t do it in the Uk .

I’d go for a Thermarest. I’ve had mine about 25 years, the only time it leaked was after a stabbed it with a Leatherman and the factory supplied repair kit did the job with it never leaking since then.

My Exped has also got a leaking valve and I can’t see me buying another one, I bought it for the claims about extra warmth but to be honest it’s bulky and not worth the cost.

Thermarest again here. Good comfort/R-Value/weight ratio.

I have a Sea to Summit comfort plus mat. About 3" thick but packs down nice and small R value of 4.3. It was my sons for D of E so I think its about 8 or nine years old and maybe about 10-15 trips including festivals. I don't think its had an easy life but I used it twice last year and it was fine, warm no leaks from the valve or elsewhere and enough padding for a side sleeper. Its recommended to store it self inflated with the valve open though. Which is the way its always been stored.

Thermarest for me. Had this a couple of years and seen me through a good 50 nights of use by now.

It’s one of the thinner ones so if I was buying again I’d go for a square shape and thicker as I’m 15+ stone.

do you want to borrow a thermarest to try ? it's long and wide .
Thanks for the offer , most appreciated . I’ll shoot over to Cotswold today. Time isn’t on my side . I’m getting bagged up for the abr , so need to get busy, I might just surrender and go buy an exped mega mat . Looks big to transport, but it can go alongside my tent on the pillion . It a different construction to their lilos so should last a fair time .

Ive been using Thermarest for over 20 years. This year, after reading lots of great reviews, I bought a Big Agnes, Boundary Delux sleeping mat. 25X78. - £200
This with my new Rab Ascent 700 - £300, has revolutionised my sleeping when away on the bike. Why O why didn't I get this 20 years ago ?

I’ve got an Exped MegaMat 10 LXW. It’s a fantastic comfy sleeping mat! :thumb2 I just took it to Scotland last week. It’s SO warm. Huge pack size but if you can put it across your rear seat / panniers definitely get one.

Sad to report that my Megamat 10 has gone porous and partly deflates each night.

Going back to Thermarest as they're solid and not sold on hype.

Another vote for thermarest -
Mine is still in use after initially being bought for a round the world trip in 1994.
Camped with it two weeks ago.

Just bought a Flextail RO5 Zero. Not used it in anger yet (first outing will be at ABR) but lying on it on a wooden floor, it seems to be a huge improvement on my old Mountain Equipment Helium 3.8.

I also bought the minute Flextail Zero pump. Minuscule but it pumps the mat up (and deflates it) in pretty short order…
