I could do with a decent toolkit for when I do a bit of tinkering on my bikes.

Nothing major just some decent sockets, hex heads, screwdrivers etc.
I've got a torque wrench so that's not required. I'm using some shyte sockets at the moment so with Christmas coming I thought my missus could treat me.

Ride magazine recommends the Draper Expert 71244 Vortex, that is about £45 ish on t'internet. There is also the Clarke PRO23 at £30 ish.

Any advice out there from the techies??

I would recommend Halfords Professional as they have a lifetime warranty and you can take them back to any Halfords without a receipt, I have used them for years and only ever broken one allen key socket replaced straight away no questions.

They have some very good deals on the cased sets.

What poo and warthog said.

If you fancy stretching the budget to £100 you'll never need to search for a spanner to fit anything ever again - Halfords have £50 off their 150 piece professional kit here

One for tool magpies everywhere.

Get a decent set of sockets/Torx/Alen bits but in 1/4 drive. Then only tighten stuff up with a Screwdriver handle on the small stuff. Dont use a ratchet handle to do small stuff up on bikes. Fasteners soon F**ck up on bikes and its easy to forget if you work on other vehicles. This is my best advice..... :thumb

This is a lovely little set,expensive.....But as said....Lifetime guarantee.. ;)

In my experince its Best to get someone else to do it...... :D Then if it all goes terribly wrong and your stood at the roadside somewhere in the middle of nowhere  you become more motivated to get home......
In my case to plot some revenge...... :mcgun
Who ever said revenge was a dish best serve cold, was clearly a big girl....
But if all else fails Halfords is a pretty good set... especially for fixing the kids bikes...... :clap

I have to agree with the previous posts, Halfords do a fine set of tools these days, with, as was mentioned, lifetime warranties.

I have a lot of tools, most of which is Snap-on, and only really bought it for the name and back then the warranty, but if I'm honest, the 85 piece halfords professional set ( £80 if I remember correctly ) I keep in the van is every bit as good as any of the Snap-on stuff I have.

Thanks chaps, I have bought the Halfords Professional 150 piece set, £100. :)

Unfortuantely, I cannot use it yet 'cos my wife is wrapping it up for my Christmas pressie. :(
