Looking for a new “set” of leathers. So what brands do y’all recommend?

p.s. might try the bespoke route

leathers

Depends on what you wanna spend i guess,
Gericke "hard edge" (I think they're called) did really well in Ride mag's leathers test, good quality and fit,all the essential features you need -knox armour etc. scored well in crash and abrasion tests, and got a "Ride recommended".Comes in any colour so long as it's black;) ,for that understated look, and good value,I don't have any leathers, but if I did....................................................... :D

I have some "Hideout", which are second to none for protection etc. They have also been great in sorting out niggles ( I had silver arms, and the armour leached colour), no quibbles and done quickly.

Can also tailor race vs touring stance.

I bought them via Graham Falke at Fliwick. He now handles MJK, which have a really good reputation. And he is very easy to deal with and a real enthusiat ......

You pays your money and takes your choice ...... if zou are going to spend 700 plus go Hideout / Crowtree / Zaks etc rather than Dainese ......

Scott

Have had a set of Scott leather duds for three years, and a textile jackt too,

The leathers are as good as the day i got em, real thick, feel safe in em, the jacket is very goood to zips gone on left cuff though, phoned scott who said call in or send up and they,ll put a new one in no problem.

Wife,s got some too, says there far better than a set of Hien Gerrick that I got here this summer.

I would definatly recommend them for leathers! :) :)

HTH.

Always wear good leathers for top protection ;)

Wolf leathers.....................TOP KIT.

I have had Dianese leathers and during a spill they wore straight through on the shoulders...pretty crap.

I then purchased a set of Wolf leathers . They were a bit stiff to start and took some bedding in . Once this was done they were great. I did have the miss fortune of binning my Falco at Silverstone this year (been waiting parts to repair it for 18 months!) and the leathers hit tarmac and performed fantastically well. The armour spread the impact and despite the slide the leathers were only scuffed and could still be used.

If you look up wolf leathers on the net you need to go to the shop in southend on sea . All the leathers are made there and if you go to em they will make to measure a set for you and for a charge they will change colour schemes etc etc.

And Niall Mckenzie wears Wolf leathers.

Does that answer your question?

...have had many sets mostly "Ride" recomended including Kushitani which were excellent, but by far the best quality made to measure are BKS I have a set ...they take a while to "bed in" but are well worth it and are excellent for sliding down road or track.....will last for ever...down side is they cost!!

best of luck:D

Leathers

BMW Atlantis

Hydrophobic leather, proof against very heavy showers alone, with goretex liners proof against downpours. Very comfortable & even when leather does get wet it dries very quickly as it actually absorbs little water - dried quicker than some fabric kit when in Germany this year, & boy was it wet out there!
Downsides - price, & sleeves a little loose if you've skinny arms like me!:D

For off the peg, I would recommend RS, it's a little known brand, but the jacket and trousers I have are well above the quality of some much more expensive kit. I originally bought them as they came top in a ride magazine test for off the peg two piece leathers (that year their one piece outfit also won a similar test).

All CE Armour, BMF Approved and zip out lined jacket for 240 quid about 4 years ago, hard to beat value and construction wise.

The trousers were also good, but their strong construction meant they were not that easy to move in at first. Hein Gericke Trax (or whatever they are now called) would probably be a better choice (as they also faired very well in the press) and the pair that my brother has are much easier to move in than my RS ones.

For made to measure items Crowtree is hard to beat, they offer similar quality and build to some of the premium brands but at about 60% of the price, the only disadvantage being that I think you have go to Lincs to be fitted out and then wait about 4-6 weeks to get them.

Hope this helps.

Not to rekomend ---- bought a set of Dainese motodrome leathers about 1 1/2 years ago , and thought they were crap in the fact they look worn to quick and the need to buy after market back protection on top of the leathers price and
poor value for money + Crap vents . If i had the need again would get down to gericks, they seem to have high scores in all the protection tests all the mags carry out.
So why did I buy e'm .
Hype.

Agree with Rabbitson - RS is good kit. Had a RS Sirius jacket for years, bought the trews to match (thru' this forum no less) and well pleased. Knee armour may need some mix-n-match to fit tho'.

I don't believe you have to pay over the odds for a good set of leathers. I agree having them made to measure would be nice but I'm fortunate that I can get a pretty good fit off the peg.

As an example of quality I 'tested' a £400 set of two piece Frank Thomas leathers down the road at a ton. Damage as follows:

- The gun metal colouring to the hip was removed down to the base black leather but the seam and all stitching remained intact.
- Shoulder reinforcement seam opened up exposing the second layer of leather below - repaired at FT factory for £15
- Light scuffing here and there (from rolling at some point)

They did their job of keeping me in one piece and unscathed - what more do they need to do?

I think once you go past a certain price there's little gain if any in the safety of a product.

Being of the short 'n' fat disposition, I found that off the shelf, in leathers as in suits, was a no-no for me. I got BKS to make me a set, and very nice they are too - I even got them to make me a touring style jacket as opposed to a power ranger stylee.
Took a couple of goes to get the fit as I wanted it, and were v. expensive, but the leather is very thick, twice the Hein Gericke stuff that had to be altered anyway.

Only silly thing I did was to get full ventilation, so that they are too cold on anything other than a hot summer day, and I don't get quite as much use from them as I would have liked.

Just found this link for R.S.

Agree about Dainese, really expensive and my brother had set, they were single stitched leather trousers and after about four months of continuous use, the stitching fell apart of it's own accord, Not what I'd expect from a 280quid pair of trousers.

BKS are very good, no doubt about it, but for the price they are they flippin' well should be :D

Personally I believe that Crowtree are just as good as BKS, but just harder to find and not as expensive

Hope this helps.
