Recommenda wireless modem router

Before I order a Netgear DG834PN for my sister, any other Netgear recommendations?

I've got an older Netgear modem/router, a DG834G & when mum & dad joined the broadband generation I set them up with a DG834PN.

Sisters moved & used to have a cheapy BT wired modem that came with the broadband package, but after staying with me and experiencing wireless - sitting in front of the tv while on her laptop, she now wants the same in the new pad.

She's got a 4 bed detached house,so hopefully something with good range (which the DG834PN seems to have)

Obviously things have moved on & not being an IT bod, just wondering if there's a newer version with more bells, whistles & speed. Bearing in mind the DG834PN is only £50 now.........

I have a netgear (DG834GT) myself.. and cant see any reason for me to change.. my mate got a link sys (WRT54G) and hated it, and nothing but problems, brought it back. but others love it.. you can replace the standard operating system on it..


mine does my FTP, VOIP and firewall... dont really need anything else

most of the other ones I know are pricey (cisco etc)

but a one good as well is the D-Link 2740B

I've sold Draytek routers for years now and have found them to be exceedingly reliable. Of several thousand we must have sold I've only ever had a handful returneded for any reason. They cost more than most, but you seem to get what you pay for.

Another option is Buffalo, we don't resell them but I've run a couple for the last two or three years and they also seem pretty robust. They appear to give better wireless range than the Draytek's.

In the past we've seen a lot of Netgear kit swapped out for Draytek because the Netgear kit just wasnt reliable.
