Recommended replacement tyres?

My Anakee’s have been OK, but I wouldn’t say they were great. I haven’t tried the Tourance’s or the Trail Attack’s, but I suspect my feeling would be the same when I’ve used 100% road tyres for years. I know it’s splitting hairs, but it’s just the way I roll :blagblah. So I just spoke to Dunlop and Michelin to get an update …...

Per r1happy’s previous update, Dunlop confirmed the Roadsmart will be available in December (existing 170/60 x 17 code is 632853, new 120/70 x 19 front is 632854) and this was a trye I pretty much liked on my ’08 GS. I heard somewhere think it’s The Plod tyre of choice. I’d more than happily give this a try.

I spoke to someone at Michelin who made it clear they have nothing to announce, nor can they discuss products in development, but said guilty person hinted heavily that something is in the pipeline. I asked, hypothetically speaking of course, if Michelin were going to announce a good product when that would be and at the start of the season was the reply so I’m thinking into 2014, maybe March timeframe. No hint on which tyre though I’d have to guess it’s the PR3. Some time back someone told me the existing 19” front isn’t the same compound as the 17” on the PR3’s so I’ll take a look to see if they have done anything to address that on any new releases (implication being the 19” isn’t so sticky, though I’ve not seen it slow down anyone using it on a on GS’s), but again hoops I'd happiy put on a GS.

Anyhow, thought I’d share this since the winter is fast approaching and I for one will be looking at timing to get something sports/touring orientated to ensure LC giggles are maintained during the wet months :thumb.

Stand by your beds .... wait for it!

For what it's worth:

Roadsmarts - never again, the ONLY tyre I've ever had spin up on me (Triumph Sprint ST)

MEZ8 Interacts - OK, but a strange feeling as if the bike was sitting down when tipping in. A bit unnerving. (Yamaha FJR13)

Michelin PR2 - great tyre, good handling, good grip, good enough life (FJR)

Michelin Anakee - only 200 miles so far but impressed in the dry (GS)

Prior to this I was a Bridgestone man, but I'm now a Michelin convert.

I hear ya on the PR2's. I have them on the Street Triple and apart from maybe trying something else for the hell of it I have no obvious need to change them, even to the PR3 for small gains pushing on in the wet.

Only downside with the Roadsmarts for me was that they weren't so great when cold/in the cold compared to the Michelin's.

No update on Roadsmarts that I thought were due before year end and the PR4 is supposed to be out 'before the season starts' which given it's particularly good wet tyre means it should have been here this week!

I'm eagerly waiting for these to come out too.

I had PR3 on my Kwaka Versys 650 and they were superb, particularly in the wet.

Got Tourance Next on my GSW, they have about 6000klm and they look and feel fine, the rear is just starting the square off process.

I heard PR4 avail in Feb/Mar 2014. This was from a tyre distributor at the Sydney Motorbike show in November.
