Can anyone recommend a good basic recording program for recording directly off my dell laptop? I'm quite happy to pay for one, in the hope that it won't be full of spyware and crap that takes over the computer and causes endless problems. One issue is that poxy Vista doesn't seem to want to allow any program to do, by disabling settings that might let you, e.g stereo line in. I've used Audacity in the past, but I'm buggered if I can get it to work. I use a Behringer UFO202 usb audio interface, which plays the craptop through my home stereo-is there a way of using this somehow? There's lots of stuff on the internet about enabling the stereo line in, but it doesn't work on dell laptops. Would I be better off going back to XP?
Cheers!

Have you thought of a linux partition. This would let you use Audacity again.

Audacity is good or if you want to pay there are a few options such as Sound booth from Adobe or Roland but for hte life me I can't recall what it's called but the interface is MADI compliant which is multi track and pretty good. being Roland it's top draw stuff...

the other one which is full fat is made by Avid

Thanks, guys-I can't enable the stereo line in in the devices on the dell laptop, something to do with the internal sound card used, which must be pretty crappy. I'll check out the programs, thanks!

sonar is the roland software and they also do a better USB driven sound card.

Thanks, I've tried Totalrecorder, which seems pretty good and does what I want-it lets you try it first to make sure it works with your system, then if you happy you pay around £15 to register and use, which seems fair enough. Hopefully it won't load up loads of spyware and stuff like free software sems to. So far so good, thanks to all who replied.
