I’m going leave my current tv provider. I sometimes use a fire stick in other rooms. I’m thinking of using a fire stick in the main room but I’m wondering if there’s a way to record with it? Something not too complicated or is there a device that would work like a fire stick that has some inbuilt capacitiey for recording? Thanks. JJH

Look for a Freeview or Freesat DVR depending on if you’re using an aerial or a Sat Dish to receive your TV Signal.

I used to use a Freeview recorder with Youview branding but a Humax under the skin.

How is your TV signal delivered in Ireland? Over the air, via cable or the internet?

For me now, with a poor Freeview terrestrial signal I have abandoned recording stuff. I have a Roku device, like a Firestick, and I just use live streaming or the catch up services from the 5 main UK channels. It's worked fine for 2.5 years. I don't subscribe to Netflix, Amazon etc but the Roku device can do that as well.

Do you have similar catch up services available for Irish TV channels, and a broadband service that can deliver it?

Vodafone. I left sky in December. Had sky q. The price had crept up. €98 monthly. I had a sky glass set which never worked properly as my broadband was too slow. That was 5g. I now have fiber and was hoping that my service would improve. Unfortunately after many visits from engineers and alleged upgrades my tv service is hopeless. I was locked into a 24 month contract with Vodafone but in fairness to them they are not enforcing it. They seem to have problems in my area. Some people say it’s the hardware. I was considering going back to sky but I’ve spent the whole day been transferred from department to department. I was even talking to someone in corporate for the UK. I might just get along with a fire stick and a faster 5g broadband setup. Fire stick seems to work ok. I just need to see what channels it supports on catch up. I’ve added up my time on phone to sky and it’s 8 hours including 1:20 minutes on hold on just one call. I’d say that they don’t want my business. JJH

I'm quite happy with my Humax digit box. It's also handy if you miss something while watching live TV. Just pause, rewind. Works for me.

I use a Manhatten Freeview recorder, it records the terrestrial channels, so you can fast forward through all the shitty ads, it's a good job

Also does the catch up channels over the internet & Youtube, but you can't fast forward through the ads
