recovering seat

Hi Guys

Not long bought an 850gs, hope to keep it mainly for a winter bike.

The main flaw is the rear seat has some rips/tears on it.

Not really looking to have anything special done to it in the realms of recovering it, but does anybody know of a cover kit? Or someone that can do a simple recovering job, to something like the standard look for sensible money?

Or, does anybody have a spare unmarked rear seat in black?

No cover kit as such.

if you want it done properly look in your yellow pages for a local car upholsterer. simple recover job shouldn't be much money. easy enough i would imagine to DIY. but getting the right stapler/adhesive/vinyl etc would make it less cost effective than having it done. by a professional.

i recoverd this seat mesen, only using one peice ov vinyl and a hair dryer to warm up and streach the cover over the foam..

Me and my mate have recovered seats with this one way stretch vinyl. It really stretchy say acrossways but not the other way. Very good stuff. It was around £20 for a large A2 sheet and very easy to use. You dont need any special tools just a staple gun (few quid).

I did consider mentioning Tony Archer.. but the OP wanted a simple cost effective recover.. nothing fancy. And any car upholsterer can do that. If theres a local one then that would save a bit of cash and time with all the 'sending way' palaver. (yorkshire and back) - the postage both ways would cost more than the job itself.

I would always say 'Tony Archer' if someone wants a 'fancy job' or maybe the seat lowered/raised or repacked for comfort - that sort of jobbie.

I see you are in Flitwick, Beds

A&R Pound in Baldock will do it for you. I have a 1150GSA seat being recovered as we speak and have used them a number of times and usually charge about £20-30 for a seat recover.

Another for Tony Archer he did a fine job on K&Q seat for a Bonneville I used to own a few years ago, didn't know for certain he was still around, where is he to be found now, was Brighouse/Wyke area.

Thanks to all that replied. A great mix of info. Had an offer of good second hand seat(thanks pete) , but think I'll check out the Baldock company first. I may even take both parts and see if they can improve the riders seat at the same time

staple the front , then streach each side down, be carefull not to rip the vinyl when yer pulling down, get plenty of heat to the cover.

the hard bit was the front curve , because yer vinyl wants to just pull to the back , leaving it baggy in the middle.
just perserveir and staple as ye go it will finally follow the contours of the seat..
i used a wall type staple gun, worked fine

the vinyl stretches at least a couple of inch , but make sure ye have enough to lay right across the seat in case of cock ups , ye can always stretch it more, but not too far , it will get thinner and wrinkle easier

i had to make the seat fit the rear mudguard that i cut back and modified , so the lines flowed.
the original mudguard was a crappy off the shelf part fitted on and wasnt in keeping with the supermoto looks

the original seat was falling apart too, i bought my vinyl from the local market
ive still got a sheet left some wear???

No.. he had it done by a local car upholsterer. (like i suggested)

Hi Guys
Took both seat's over to Baldock yesterday afternoon. What a place, you can barely get in the door for the pile of work waiting to be done, a good old fashioned business, just like they should be

Estimate of £45-50 to recover both seats and rework the foam in the riders seat to allow for my damaged coccyx. Only down side is 'at least 3 weeks', but I have the Bird to ride instead, although I can see that seat going over once the GS ones are done.

Stujw90- saw your GSA seat, looks the biz. Thanks again for the info.
