Any tips on recovering the engine and calliper finish on a 2015 883 Iron, only 1560 miles but not been stored well.

Plan to change shocks and see how well the exhaust polishes up but unsure what to do with the black engine and calliper finish. Anyone done this before with any success?

I know it’s a long shot, but you might want to hit the engine fins with a toothbrush and degreaser of your choice. Then apply Harley Engine Brightner. Depending on how things go with the engine, I’d maybe consider new calipers, but definitely cheaper to have beed blasted and powder coated.
I’m sure you’ll discover other gremlins too.
It’s never fun buying someone else’s neglect 😬

FFS, what a mess - hope you got it cheap. Curiously, I would love to have a go at sorting that out.

Good luck, please pop back and let us see it in all it's glory when you've got it sorted.....:thumb2

The black engine finish gets very dull, almost grey in colour and can be rejuvenated with the genuine Harley Engine Brightener, leaves the same finish as standard without making it shiny. I believe S100 do a similar thing but have not tried it.

I have always use the HD back to black engine restorer spray that @GSite mentions, which I was told is an S-Doc product. Just make sure all the salt/shit is cleaned off thoroughly first.

Beyond that, I would have thought most of the rest could be restored to a reasonable with a rattle can & a bit of ingenuity, even the shocks, provided they actually work. Then you can contain the spend initially & work up improvements progressively, if it proves to be a keeper. If not, then maybe it can be traded on as an SPQR.
