Seems that today they have shut up shop and closed down

It is a real bugger as i was booked in for a service with them next tuesday before my Spain trip and it may prove difficult to fins another dealer that can do it in time

Gutted. I brought my first 1290 SAS from these guys that had to be rejected and while I think the main man could have handled the situation better with a least a phone call back to me, the service and sales staff were absolutely excellent. If any of them happen to read this by some weird chance, I wish you all the very best for the future.

People always love to hate on KTM but nobody wins in this sort of situation.

Imagine how good it would be if the mechanics were able to setup on their own just doing servicing without the shackles of needing to plug the damn bikes into the mothership to do anything other than an oil change, and of course get some parts!

Great shame.
They were my go to dealer after Leisure Trail called it a day.

Rick, I did not see your post before posting mine in beekchat …

They aren’t my local at all, but shame nonetheless to see them fold.

There is a KTM dealer in Saltash (J D Racing) see if you can book yourself in for a service for the morning before your departure in the afternoon.

A good idea but not feasible for me as im 350miles from Plymouth and there are 5 of us going

I have it sorted im just going to my highly trusted independent

No worries, failing that. Arrive a day early before the. Boys, drop off the bike, stay in a hotel/B&B and pick up the bike in the afternoon before your departure. Just another option.

My 1290 just thrown a message out at me the other day that it wants a service. I have lost any kind of interest in dealing with my local and supplying dealer, so tempted to have it serviced in a couple weeks time when I am in France. Otherwise it is day out of my work schedule and a jaunt to Essex to Jim Aims.

Edit:
My bike is well out of warranty, but has always has been serviced by the supplying dealer.
Should I just call it a day and do it myself? Buy service kit from Trevor Pope and have it delivered? I doubt there anymore software updates available for my 2018 model in order to need to plug it in?

Judd Racing in Nottingham. Never used them but not far from you.

Really bad idea to have your bike serviced literally just before the off

Gutted for them. They have really been supporting the KTM community - discount codes for spares and accessories, fixed price servicing (at keen prices), ride outs etc. Nothing against other dealers, but this one a model for how a dealers should be.

It reminds me of an old cartoon that we used to have on the wall at the dealership where I worked.

A tramp on a park bench, doing the crossword in newspaper.

Eight letter word meaning bankrupt??

Ah yes…DISCOUNT

That’s a real shame, not just a ktm dealer they did yam enduro/mx bikes, I guess the 4rse as dropped out of ktm and no one is buying.

My KTM dealer here also sells Yamaha, Suzuki and CFMoto.
They are going to drop Suzuki and they have to separate the other thro into defined areas.
That also depends on Yamaha accepting the arrangement. No too happy about the CFM side.

Judd Racing in Nottingham. Never used them but not far from you.

Bought a few bikes off Judds and used them for servicing - a good bunch of people. Suspect their workshop will be a tad busy now if Redline have gone pop :(

Redline stopped selling KTM's earlier this year (but still sold Gas Gas!) so not a great surprise!

I don't get the close the doors and lock up mentality, why not be in your shop and tell people that turn up or call what is going on, hand their bikes back, phone all the people with bikes booked in, maybe talk to some other still in business dealers and ask if they want your punters shoved their way.

Just seems shitty to me, my local dealer who boomed in the 70s / 80s lost the franchise for Honda and Yamaha in late 80's / early 90s and went Indie, but 2 years ago they decided to close as they just weren't making anything, they announced they would be closing, reduced everything for the last few weeks, then had a "closing day" where they were dishing out food and drink and shaking the hands of their customers.

Maybe he no longer has control of the premises. He may have defaulted on the mortgage or rent and has to get authorisation to enter the premises to remove customers' bikes

That seemed really odd that they stopped supplying KTM's but still had GasGas models, I can only assume that they lost it to Judd in terms of exclusivity for the area. Judd seem to be diversifying wherever possible but still have loads of KTM/Gas Gas/Husqvarna off road models in.

Whilst your sentiment makes sense, but I dont think you can say that unless you know the financial (and personal) circumstances, its not exactly in a high footfall area so you only really go there if you want something and Its never had more than 1 other person there when I have popped in. I suspect there has been angst and emotional turmoil and this decision won't have been taken lightly, or without considering alternatives. It might be they have a huge bill around the corner, or as @wessie say's have already left it past the last sensible moment to stop trading in the hope a saviour or trading upturn would come along. Have a look on Ebay for the glut of off-road bikes (which is really what they specialised in) available, and it looks like there needs to be a massive correction in the market as well as KTM sorting themselves out as a business before things will recover.

I just wish them well, and hope that it helps sustain other dealers if there are fewer about (e.g. like Judd racing).

My sketch recall of the history of Redline is that it started off under the original owner, Tim, sort of specialising in KTM off road bikes with road bikes as almost an afterthought pushed onto them by KTM to be classed as an authorised KTM dealer.
They resisted and were allowed to resist the new way of being a dealer - the big glass fancy showrooms posh coffee machines etc - when you went to Redline and were offered a drink it was a case of the kettle is over there make me one while you are at it type thing and I liked that !

Tim sold it as a ( decent profitable ) concern a few years back probably for a big number and Nathan had big ideas and went heavy on road bikes as well as their off road stuff and started operating like any other KTM or indeed any other dealer
Under Tims management it was a case of thats the bike thats the price buy it or dont more or less they were quite famous for not doing much in the way of deals because they were a good dealer and it worked but the new management started competing on price and did do some good deals - I got a stonker on my 1390SDR so the cut throat world may have played some part

I suspect and have heard anecdotally that the massive increase in in costs to stay open have factored into this in as much as they prevented a lets work through it type approach - power costs staff costs etc

Any way it is a great shame and I wonder where Rob the mechanic has gone as he had a very loyal following as did Parry the service manager

Warranty though ...

I've nearly always done all my own servicing of cars, vans and bikes inc the first 500 mile and had warranty work done. If I messed it up I know the warranty wouldn't cover it but if they refused genuine warranty work I would tell them I would never buy a car bike van from that manufacturer again and for them to make a commercial choice.

In this instance, you're in a stronger position because you have your bike booked in, dealer has closed with no notice and you need the service done before you go away. I'm assuming it's not a valve check and only needs oil and filter + checkover? I'd have it done quicker than riding to the dealer.

Use the correct grade of oil and a genuine KTM filter, take pictures if it is a valve check and keep the receipts.

You'll be fine and it's quite satisfying knowing you've done it.
