Reek Sunday

Been up there 3 times

Not religous, but it is one of the nicest climbs in Ireland to one of the best viewpoints in Ireland. (Weather permitting)
1st time down before heart attack: 18 mins to the main road.
2 years later 20 mins to road.
Last time after heart attack 40 mins. I am getting slow.
I reckon though, a good fell runner could do it in 12 mins.
Running down the scree at the top on the extreme right is great fun.
To run the rest you have to run on the slopes at the sides of the paths to preserve your joints from the pounding.

Friend rode a trail bike to the top of it a few years ago, and met a Father Mc Priest who was not amused.

trying to put photo up might have to read instructions again

Had my tea and sandwiches inside the Orratory about 10 years ago.
Then came out and found a faller near the top and had to wait 3 hours to get him off by helicopter.
Lovely place when no mist though.

Fec 12mins? is your friend Ronnie Delany? I took a leisurely 2 hours up and a 1-1/2 hours down. I only had a half litre of water with me which wasn't a good idea.

A perfect day, ride to Mayo and back was superb, the WC was in its element. I like the suspension and a traction control i don't have to deactivate when riding bumpy roads at a brisk pace.
Active suspendion is the way to go a genuine good development.

I encountered a bit of traffic here, feckin tourists.

I love that road :bounce1
Did you ever take the left turn (heading south) at the southern end of Doo Lough into the Sheeffry Hills ?
Well worth a diversion, it'll bring you past Tawnyard Lough & out onto the N59 about 15 kilometers north of Leenane.
Ride down the beautiful Erriff valley (the southern end is the nicest) to Leenane to complete the loop :thumb

Well, at the age of 34, I did it in 18mins whilst wearing slip on shoes.
I had to pause a few times. I ran on the paths and my joints knew about it. Yes: 12 mins is realistic for a young, fit fell runner.
