Ok guys, been thinking long and hard about my drama. When I was taking battery out/putting back in, for some reason I decided to play around with the throttle adjustment on the left hand side. I think it was because I was thinking it was running a little fast at idle.

Anyhow, taking the advice from you lot, I turned the adjuster back to roughly where it originally was, and low and behold, it seems to be running well now!!!

It still runs at about 1400rpm at tickover once warm though. Is this about right??? I honestly can't remember how fast it was before I started to play with things.

How fast does yours run at tickover???

NOTE TO MYSELF :stopbeing

Depends which bike you have.

1150; you'll need vacuum guages or twinmax connected and adjust tickover with the two brass screw adjusters on the throttle bodies, balancing them to the correct tickover. about 1100RPM.

Then still with the guages attached balance the throttle cables.
Do a search and you will find all the info you need:thumb

ok

Will it be ok to use the bike until I get the idle speed worked out? Desperate to go out on it as its been off the road for a couple of weeks with my pratting around!:o

When you reconnected the battery, did you reset the TPS?

Ign ON (do not start the motor)
Throttle wide open to shut a couple of times
Ign OFF

Now re-set your idle balance assuming of course that all other setting are correct..

Should be fine. When you do your balancing adjust the throttle cables first as it will affect idle speed to a small degree.
See here for a good guide :thumb

Sorted!

As always, this is THE place to get the info. Just been out for a test ride for a couple of hours, and everything is cushty!!! The idle has even settled down to a respectable 1100 ish now, so happy days. It's 10 degrees c over here today, so even though with wind its chilly, still can get out out. Roll on March when I'm posted back to Blighty!!!

Thanks again guys.
