Hi,

Quick question, my 08 800gs which has one of those battery charging LED's has started to glow amber on tick over and low revs, its fine and green when moving but as I slow down the amber light comes on again.

Is this a sign of impending doom for the Regulator?

thanks
Asif

Could be the stator as well...You can check the output of the stator (check on ADVRIDER as there is plenty of "How to's") and you should see 20vAc at idle and 50vAc at 3000rpm.

Stator can be rewound and they always recomend getting a new regulator/rectifier ar the same time.

Looks knackered then. Low at idle and not Increasing with revs - checked at the battery :-(

Any recommendations for a rewind place?

Thanks

May I suggest unles your confident with electrics get it checked out professionally, I'm assuming it's an aftermarket plug in led display that may be faulty unit..
May even be the battery starting to show its age or lacking in quality..
Good luck but let us know the outcome, I had a 800 gs & the only problem was battery died instantly at 1 week out of warrant, no goodwill either..

I had my MT350 stator done by West Country Windings,i also swear by the quality of work done by Rex,s speedshop. I don,t think you can go wrong with either companies.

if any one gets stuck i have a good stator and rectifier going cheap if anyone gets stuck thanks

All sorted. Fitted used stator and rectifier (thanks horsetooth, and nice to meet you). Changed oil and filter cos of the burned smell from the old stator, and having to scrape off the old gasket.

Back to normal now with the led monitor back to green a couple of secs after starting.

Glad you have got it fixed. I think the later bikes had a flywheel/rotor that cools the stator as it spins as it was a design fault in the early bikes.
