Hi

So, setting up a separate wiring loom off the battery, I can get the "ignition on" relay from the accessory socket ok, but if I want to run proper spot lights that only come on with the headlight, I would normally use a feed off the headlight full beam. I am concerned it will show a fault on the headlight or something weird on the can bus. Has any one done this successfully.

I pared back about 1cm of insulation from headlight bulb wire. (main beam in my case), soldered on a wire and sealed up with self amalgamating tape. The wire connects to a relay coil to switch spot lights.
It all works fine.

The only downside to wiring auxiliary lamps into a light circuit is that if the headlight bulb blows on the affected circuit, it will trigger a 'lampf' fault and cut the power to that circuit, thus killing the aux. lamps as well. No easy way around it, unfortunately.

I tried to get my LEDs used with main beam to switch to dimmed with dipped beam but could not get the dimmer to work reliably.
I bought a par of wide angle LED floods and wired them with dip beam.
The aux headlights circuit has 2 fuses so I was able to power each pair separately. One is wired with the relay to work with main beam. The other pair is wired normally to work as day marker lights.
The wide angle floods are on P clips tucked well under the petrol tank crash bars so the bike doesn't look like a glitter ball.
