I have to complain.

Went to ride today and found that there was no air in my front tyre, despite the bike being only 3 months old. Apparently these so called all-road touring motorcycles use tyres that fail to stand up to having a screw rammed through them.

i have also repeatedly (over ten times!) had to top up the petrol in the tank while covering the last 2000 miles. What pathetic kind of tank range does that imply?

Considering invoking the Sale of Goods Act.

Well i bought my bike in May 05 new, the darned thing has NEVER broken down on me, can i do a warranty claim for lac of UnReliability:augie

I also am pee'ed off having done 3000 miles and the bike once cut out at slow speed.
I'm also sick of having to put petrol in, I mean 49mpg is that all.
The main problem though seems to be the bike gets dirty when I ride it.
Shhheesh these BMW's :D

Thinking about this.

Some people seem to have loads of faults and some have none. Its this more to do with individual bikes or are some people just a lot harder/more demanding on them.

id sell it, its a lemon:D

Sounds like a friday afternoon job to me, a bike built on a tuesday is far more reliable :thumb2, I've always opted for the tuesday bike, not only have I never had to put oil in it but I've never had a puncture either :drool

I`ve also wondered this. When they first came out and a load of questions of how to run them in were on here lots of people were in the "ride it like you stole it" camp. I wonder how many of those bikes that were ridden very hard broke down? I ran mine in over the lake district passes working the engine but not thrashing it.

no problems

I am not sure about 200miles.. It seems awfully low, I tend to get around 400miles on a tank on my 2007 GSA riding motorway miles at 70.. obviously depends on head winds and terrain (hills or long straights etc) but even with most terrain 350miles is achievable. (These figues have been taken from two trips one around the UK and scotland (2000miles) and one around France (2700miles).

In terms of tyres In the 10k miles I've done since the bike was new I have used one front tyre and never had a flat. My rear is almost due for replacement.

Don't be ridiculous Mr. Badger. Even a brand new tyre can be punctured. How do you know how much petrol you are using if you just keep topping it up? Try the accepted method of brimming it and then run until the tank is empty to get a true reading. Oh, and don't forget to take some spare fuel out with you when you do this or you might have a 250 mile push home.

As for the screws, well not even car tyres stand up to them. Before embarking on a recent trip to Morocco I had a local agent fit Protex in my tyres, availaible in the UK from http://www.protex.uk.net/. It solves the screw problem, you literally unscrew the screw and carry on riding. The stuff seals your tyres. As for fuel economy My GSA is waaaay better than my old ZX12R or GSXR1000, but of course it depends how and where you ride. :thumb

NOTE: the thread was he had done 2000miles not 200

SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPEC SAVERS:)

Ah Mr Badger, you now get the chance to use BMW assist. Youve paid for it, so at least you now get to see what your money went on.
I have had the pleasure of using this BMW accessory on 2 occaisions with my 1200GS. Once for the Fuel pump and once for the Ignition antenae.
The second time was the best, as I was at a rally in the north east, and managed to save 300 miles of petrol and tyre wear by breaking down and having to be recovered home after the rally.

Now changing my '55' plate GS for a '58' GSA. and hoping that the BMW assist accessory will be surplus to requirements (now wheres the "touches wood with fingers crossed" smiley ?)

Repeated 1200GS Problems

I too have had repeated fueling problems with my GS I realise that it is now over two years old but really continual trips to a 'Petrol Station':nenau(whatever that is) is just not on,my last bike a Raleigh Grifter went for years with no need for such visits.I have kept all my bills and when Hell freezes over, which in the current climate could be by the weekend!I shall be submitting them to BMW for a good will gesture.or maybe a gesture of some sort:dabone

Soft rubbish, that's what they are:augie

My first GS was so worn out after twp years that it broke down after a minor sideswipe from a car and whacking the cylinder head off the kerb in the road median. Bloody cylinder head cover cracked and let all the oil out.

I wouldn't mind but the blasted Skoda that hit it had only about €2k worth of damage:rolleyes:

what? i just fill the bugger up when me compy sez 50 miles to pushing zone!
puntures......eh? it's rubber, not concrete..20ltr tank,so i just hose it till it makes the strangling sound, and cuts out. of course, being a tart,i ALWAYS use the plazzy gloves supplied by garages to cover the hose end prefilli ng/removing,as i love the custard colour of me tank!
