My server is AOL ( crap!...but i am under a 18 month contract) and use Mcfee.
I want to reload windows again so i wonder if you wizards can help.

Can i just put my Mcfee onto a USB stick and AOL too and then load back into the PC after a new windows ,or is it a little more complicated than that.

Thankyou for your help in Advance:thumb2

You need to make sure you have the set up files (exe) for both applications...either on Disc or your USB stick.

Be sure to back up absolutely everything else onto external hard drive, disc or if your hard drive is partitioned then onto the partition that you are NOT reloading windows to. :thumb

Foreget Mcfee. Once you have reinstalled there are plenty of free anti-virus programs that do as well, if not better, in tests than the paid for ones.

I have used AVG for years and it's never let me down.

Can't help with AOL but if you don't have an install disc why not check on their site for downloadable installers and copy that to a USB stick

How can a free anti virus be as good as a paid one?
I have always believed you pay for what you get.

I am not doubting your experience with it but for Free?

Regards.

I use AVG but your right. Its not as good however its free and for Joe Bloggs its absolutely perfect. It gives you all the basic requirements.....:thumb2

McAfee and Norton slow your system down big time as well ..AVG does not

Anyway good luck with your reloading :thumb

it's not, there are some better, but it's good enough for most users + it's better than mcafee and norton.

AAMOI i don't use it, but i have done. i use a paid for AV (NOD32) on my PCs and feck all on my mac.

I have a oppurtunity to load Vista instead of XP, is this wise on my PC?

Vista is very resource hungry, you will need loads of RAM (2 gig) and a fast processor.

XP is still a good OS but not sure how much longer Microsoft will support it.

As a parent I like Vista (Premium Home) as I can easily control which games my son plays and what hours he can use the Internet.

AVG IS GOOD BUT IT HAS NO FIREWALL ONLY ANTI-VIRUS SURELY THIS IS RISKY.

OH! AND HOW DO I GET THIS DAMN WRITING TO GET SMALLER.
SORRY JUST RE-LOADED WINDOWS:thedummy

True Agv has no firewall you need Zone alarm or sunbelt/kerio are meant to be pretty good free firewalls, used zone alarm for a few years.
