Remove hand guards for hot climate?

Glad to see that it all worked out well for you.

Why not fit a pair of aluminium hand guards, protect the levers in an off without defecting much air flow. Some types even have the option of a detachable plastic cover?

The rear suspension looks thoroughly compressed in that last shot
 
Best bit of help here is GS gloves brilliant in hot weather worn mine through deserts and Death Valley brilliant, and the air vents really do work. Twat suits are good for ventilation if nothing else!!. So, get your gloves sorted and ENJOY YOURSELF!!!.

I could of just taken off the plastic extender and left the bar to protect the levers, but the nuts were being a pain and spinning so i just removed the whole thing. Job jobbed :)
 
I used to wear walking boots but whils't riding through the Nevada desert several 100 miles (and it was bloody hot) my trouser leg on one side caught up slightly and unbe known to me exposed bottom of leg to the sun!, got an enormous blister that hurt like hell so make sure your covered.
All this to visit Area 51 not an alien in sight! lots of signs saying I'll get shot if I climb over the fence!!
 
If you have a WC which is pre 2015 then turn on the heated grips. Some of the posts on that subject lead me to believe they will actually cool your hands down.

It must be BMW tradition. The grips on my 08 Hexhead only work in hot wether.
 
so after all that faffing around removing those hand guard extender thingies and the winglet doofas. i notice you also removed the metal boxy whatdoyoumacallits.... you rebel :D

Removed the upper parts of my hand guards and winglets after seeing what Martin had done. No noticeable improvement in airflow without the winglets - so what are they for?? - but the airflow across the backs of my gloves was very welcome.

In at least one of the pictures of Martin he has the peg touching. I preferred to allow my kipper-toes to do the scraping :-(

Yep - both pegs were scraping metal by the end of the week - I started tucking my feet in a bit as the rubber was get a bit thin - was a nice feeling at 80+mph scraping them though! Also noticed I'd touched down one of my panniers during some enthusiastic cornering lol
 
AF -330 sans winglets gives a nice airflow around your chest. Fab in summer in a HG Taureg suit with all the zips open.

HG Voyager suit offers such excellent insulation that I didn't notice any improvement in the chest airflow. :-( It even has vertical air vents in the chest that are forced shut by the airflow - a masterpiece of design that is only equalled by the 'waterproof' chest pockets that are almost the size of a small cigar :-)

As for the advice to keep cuffs and main zip loose - there are two types of rider:

Those that have had a wasp fly up their sleeve and those that haven't (yet). You can tell the former by the way their cuffs and neck are securely fastened... :D

I thought this was quite a clever idea...
