Having an issue on a Zumo 390LM that I bought from a member here. I have restored it to factory settings, created an account and registered the device to myself.

When I select the device from within Basecamp, all the previous owner's waypoints, POI, 'home' data etc are displayed, and cant be deleted from within Basecamp. A quick google search shows this is normal and that such data must be deleted on the device itself. I found these items in the 'favourites' menu and deleted them all, and conrifmed that there are no saved routes, trips, tracks, history or anything now showing anywhere on the device. I have been through it many times, and exhausted all possible places where they may show up...

...but they still appear in basecamp when I select the device.

I have browsed the internal storage folder within windows explorer and cant see anywhere that such data may be stored. There is nothing in the GPX -> Archives folder, and only 4 entries in the GPX folder - 'Current', 'CurrentTrackLog', 'GarminExpressImport' and 'Temp'. I dont want to delete these as they appear critical to operation.

I have 'hard reset' the device twice with no change other than resetting my user preferences (home, sounds, etc).

Can anyone shed any further light on this? I would assume something as simple as this would be straightforward, but im now at a loss. It appears there is no way to truly 'reset' the device back to what it would be if I bought it new from a shop.

Cheers

With the device plugged into your PC and Basecamp open you should see in the top left hand navigation pane all the collections on both basecamp and the unit itself and you "should" be able to delet them by right clicking the offending item and selecting delete !

Failing that get a clean version of basecamp and try that

otherwise I am at a loss as i can delete anything i like on mine !

Thanks redrick. I did try that but the points only appear when i click on the device (when its plugged in) and there is no option to dleete from the right click pop-up. Absolutely baffled.

Im going to uninstall Express and Basecamp and try with a fresh install.

I am assuming that you have been through favourites on the device and all the routes etc that were on it and re formatted the memory card

At which point I am stumped but it will be possible !

Well reinstallation of Basecamp and Express didnt work.

Yep ive been through the device and deleted everything, all favourites, routes, trips, everything. Nothing shows on the device at all, just when its plugged in to the PC the 'internal storage' on the Zumo shows all these data points within Basecamp. Stumped.

Are you sure there're not on an SD card. If you can see them in BaseCamp they can usually deleted as said
How are you doing the hard reset? Presume you're using a PC & not a Mac with Windows installed.
Windows 10?

That was my point

Is there a SD card in the unit ?

If so take it out and re format it

Hi Ian - yeah im definitely sure theres no SD card in it, one of the first things I thought it might be. Its definitely stored on the internal memory of the device. The only place there was anything to delete was when clicking 'Where To' then choosing favourites from the options on the right of the screen. Once in there, all the data I was trying to delete from within Basecamp was present, previous owners 'Home' and points from various trips etc, and from there I could choose to delete all. I did this, and it disappeared from the menu. Trying to do it again just says 'no data found' so I assumed it had correctly got rid of it. I unplugged and restarted the Zumo, restarted a fresh install of Basecamp, and lo and behold the points are all still there, on the Device (or so Basecamp says) even though I now cannot find hide nor hair or them trawling through the device itself and all its various menu nooks and crannies.

As a last ditch attempt, I am reinstalling the entire map to the device via Garmin Express, which says its going to take another 1h40m. Im not hopeful for this to be the solution, but I have no idea where to go next.

I had read a lot of bad press about Basecamp, but being not too bad with IT stuff I thought I would give it a chance. So far, im not impressed though its seeming like this isnt a normal occurrence. Quite why you guys can delete stuff from the internal memory of the device from within Basecamp and I cant, I dont know. The 'delete' option isnt even present in the list of right click menu options - though it is for data points in 'my collection' which are NOT stored on the device.

Thanks for the suggestions. if this doesnt work, ill try it on the Mac at home. I wonder if the PO has used a mac to transfer data to the zumo, in a format that the PC cant access.

Sorry to Harp on about this are you certain there is no SD card in there

I believe it will be tucked away behind the battery if there is.

If not then and a factory reset is the only way which it seems you have tried so feck knows

Maybe ring Garmin support ?

This has nothing to do with Basecamp which in itself is just brilliant

Im 100% sure rick. I can see the slot for the micro SD card and its empty. The 390 has it under a flap on the underside of the unit, and doesnt have a user-replaceable battery.

Last option will be ringing Garmin support.

Basecamp does look powerful, if at first a little unintuitive, but I will persevere ;)

Not sure about data points. Don't see that on mine. Do you mean Waypoints?

Sorry for my terminology, bit unclear - by data points i meant any of either waypoints, via points, custom POIs, home points etc.

Theres a whole list of places the PO had stored like fuel stops, pubs, meeting places, via points, home.

Looks like all the data from the device has been saved to your PC by BaseCamp. Does it show with device disconnected?

Ill take some screenshots tomorrow as this map reinstall wont be done before I leave work and i cant unplug it while its installing.

The points only appear when you click on 'internal memory' under the zumo device in the left hand panel, so that tells me they are stored on the device not my PC. I can transfer them from the device to the PC, and from there delete them no problem, but only from the PC and not the device. I had thought that maybe the device had perhaps silently synced this data to the PC via Basecamp, and was transferring it back to the Zumo automatically after I had deleted it using the menu on the device itself, but clearing it all thena fresh install of Basecamp met with the same result.

it doesnt show with the device disconnected, only points that I have added within Basecamp myself since receiving it a few days ago do, though since reinstalling these have disappeared.

Fair enough I am on Nav 5 so was thinking that through

Has the 390 got the Apps section with trip planner ? Just a thought that they may be in there ( you have probably already done it but justy checking)

Which part of basecamp are you trying to delete them from ?

There arte 2 navigation panes on the LHS the top should be folders ( my collection etc) the bottom should display the contents of those folders when those folders are highlighted

Now on mine the folders in the top section can just be deleted with right click and delete

but yours may be different as its a different unit

so have you tried highlighting the folder in the top section and then deleting the stuff that is displayed in the bottom pane ? doing this should leave the folders at the top empty which would be a start

You can try this
To delete a favorite or saved location.

1.Touch Where To?
2.Touch Favorites or Saved.
3.Locate and touch the favorite you would like to delete.
Some devices require you to touch the Info button (lower-case i) after this step.
4.Touch the menu button (three lines) in the upper-left of the screen..
5.Touch Delete.
6.Touch Yes.

The selected favorite(s) will now be deleted.

To edit the details of a favorite or saved location.

1.Follow step 1- 4 listed above.
2.Touch Edit.
3.Touch the information you would like to change.
You may change the name, phone number, categories, photo, and map symbol assigned to the location.

Once you've completed making the desired edits to a favorite, touch and hold the back button to return to the main menu.

If you would like to delete multiple favorites from the device at one time:

1.Touch Where To?
2.Touch Favorites or Saved.
3.Touch menu button (three lines) in the upper left corner.
4.Touch Delete Favorites or Delete Saved Places.
5.Touch the location(s) you would like to delete.
Touch Select All if you would like to delete all saved favorites.
6.Touch Delete once the desired locations are selected.
7.Touch Yes.

Repeat the above steps as needed.

The selected favorite(s) will now be deleted.

cheers Lee, I have already done that and it did appear to delete them from device, but still there in basecamp.

Rick yeah it does have the trips app but again, nothing in there on the device.

the reinstall of the map finished so I've taken some screenshots which should hopefully show I'm not being a *complete* numpty ;)

firstly, the menu options on the device itself, showing no favourites or trips or in fact any data at all. it's like a new device:

the following is my view within Basecamp. There is no data at all in the 'my collection' folder within the library, which being stored within Basecamp would be deletable.

lower on the left panel I see the zumo under devices. one level in, there is the map itself, and the 'internal storage' folder which in the (definite!) absence of an SD card is the devices built in memory. it is in here that the way points, via points, home and POIs set up by the previous owner appear. right-click menu on these points does not have an option to delete as it would if the point was in the library instead of on device internal storage:

when the zumo is not plugged in, basecamp has none of this data showing:

thanks for your patience - I hope it's not something silly and down to me being incompetent :D

will try on the Mac tonight before resorting to phoning Garmin to have a good whinge.
