Removing rust from spokes

I would say there's 2 approaches: the Jenolite approach that turns it black and makes it into an inert compound.
Dunno what effect that would have on the metal though.

In the past when it's happened to me I've wet & dried the spokes and then Solvolled them as best as I can.

Keeps it at bay for a while but I expect the only true solution is a respoke with stainless ones.

I give the spokes on my1100gs a yearly spring clean with wire wool and it gives them a nice sheen and the rust is away until the next winter. Takes minutes too.

I take it the bike is out of warranty?
Mine rusted in the spoke region, mainly down to a slipshod cleaning regime i suppose, 1 month before warranty expired, took it to Allan Jeffries who had a good look round it, made a list of stuff to change and then booked it in, did £1500 worth of warranty exchanges and a quiet ' better start cleaning it matey-boy' in me lugoil..............
If its out of warranty, green plastic spongy things from the kitchen, keep them off the alloy tho'

Is it really rust? or just dull crud?

Mine looked dreadful and all attempts to clean them removed more skin from my knuckles than anything else

Last weekend I tried an 'alloy wheel' cleaning brush from Halfords with the normal water and car shampoo and it shifted it pretty well with no blood spilt.

The brush has stiff nylon bristles and gets between the spokes nicely, might even clean them again next year!
