Removing Tar Spots

The exhaust on my 1150 is absalutely covered in tar spots. Anyone got any proven recommendations for removal. (Sencible ones, that is, ie products? ).

I bought some halfords branded tar remover and frankly it was crud! So, anyone of your bike polishers out there know of a good one?

I;ve got some of the tar removing stuff and yes, its not as easy as the bottle says it is. Best thing is to apply, leave to soak in, then rub off.

White spirits & re polish afterwards, some of the industrial pull out hand wipes will do it, also make a good job of removing caked on brake dust too.

I find that if I lay a piece of kitchen towel over the area, soak that with WD40 and leave it for a while then wash the area with gunk or similar it reduces the chance of scratching the polished surface, a problem you can get trying to remove a stubborn bit with your old undies

I used parafin and a soft cloth last weekend as I'd run out of WD40.

At bit of autosol got rid of some stubborn bits at the end on the can - you know - the non-shiny bit.

Have Just done my bike ...........

Loads and loads of tar spots - went to Halfords and got some Tar spot remover - absolute rubbish , hardly touched them. My local greasy Joe garage recomended Gunk - Bought the spray , gave it a soaking and 10 minutes later .... No Tar spots ..... Magic stuff!

Last week I used Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover, found it pretty good stuff to be honest

Warm the exhaust and spray on some Gunk (or brush it on if you the liquid in a can type). Wash the rest of the bike then wash off the Gunk from the exhaust. Smells lovely afterwards too and if you are an oldie like me reminds you of the good old day when bikes made in Britain all leaked oil and Gunk was used to wash it off. Now where's me Zimmer frame.
