on the way down from Nord Cape in Norway we went trough section of the road recently resurfaced. It turn out to be almos liquid tar (!!) which I noticed only a few miles down the road when we stopped x petrol. The front/underneath of the bike was literally covered with a film of tar...
Into the shop we went, fumming and boiling only to discover that the local entepreneur was aware of the tar problem because a pile of "Tar removal Spray" was there in a prominent place.
Bought the stuff, cleaned the bike with the brew and presto...Never been so clean!! The best cleaning/crap removal stuff I've seen so far!!
Hold your horses now. No idea how is called because I lost the bottle in the way home.

The question is, does anybody knows were this tar/asphalt remover can be found in this country?
Ye, I did try Halford, petrol stations, etc.

Gracias....

Petrol ............applied with a clean rag and petrol soaked cotton buds are good for getting between the fins on GS's

grandmas sucking eggs etc so sorry, but anything that removes tar that easily will likely be extremely effective at shagging plastics, paint finishes and all sorts of things that you wouldn't want shagging........

Apply with care!!!

Autoglum tar remover does exactly what it says on the bottle, and I use it on my smart car which is all plastic with no problemos

Tars a petrolium based product (by-product) so another petrolium product will normally work. Petrol, parafin and the like. It just dilutes the stuff.

I just ride mine through the dust which settles nicely on the tar and gives that "offroad" look :)

Halfords do sell tar remover in a can Yosi, think about £6-9 a can not cheap but apparantely works a treat.

:gringo

Any brake cleaner will remove tar - i used loctite stuff - green can - didn't affect plastics - spray nozzle gets between fins etc.

cotton wool buds ???

My better half looked at the job logically and laterally ( unlike most of us blokes)..............went upstairs to the Bathroom cabinet and came back armed with cotton buds.............dipped them in the petrol and set about the engine..........

Cotton buds work a treat and removed all the tar spots between the barrels and heads on the GS....................

Another Bathroom tip is.......... Jif Lemon Mousse for removing the mud staining on the GS silver Heads/Barrels and also on carbs/alloy crankcase halves on Jap bikes..............spray it on...........work in with a toothbrush for 2-3 minutes and hose off.............Brilliant results and makes the bike smell lemon-fresh !!!!!!!!!!

Kerosene is the stuff that my grandfather used during the fifties and I use it to this day as well!

Don't know what you call it up there.

Mick.

Many thanks to my learned colleagues...

I'll try your variety of suggested solutions during the weekend...
The worst of the stuff is on the Remus exahust...

Does anybody has any experience on suing the Norway Goverment for damages...?

In this country you would start with the Local Council, the contractor, the manager, his deputy, the lolly pop lady, everybody..

How much is a fully loaded 1200...?

Tar and BUg.. Halfords

I was told by a certain BMW guys.. they use TAR and BUG cleaner from the likes of Halfords.. I bought some.. i have still to try it.
But the stuff he showed me when he valleted my bike was great..
the tar spots on the front came off.. havent be able get then off since i bought the bike.

Will let you know how I get on.

don't tell everyone....the real secret is BUTTER....preferably unsalted ( helps against corrosion ), rub it in, all over, as much as you like, ooh err missus

I bought some ACF-50 from M&P or MPS or someone anyway. We use it at work to stop corrosion on our aeroplanes. It works a treat on them so as and when I can drag myself into the garage I'll give the GS a treatment and see how that gets on.
