Recently fitted Remus Y piece and Revolution Titanium exhaust to my 1150Gs, very pleased with the results but:-

1. Instructions given in German only (a German colleague translated them for me) instruct to replace the bolts on the nearside pillion footrest with new bolts and nuts and spring washers (provided with the exhaust), why dont Remus give instructions in English and in other languages where they market their products to this effect?

2. Instructions (a picture!!) provided with the exhaust advise that the original rubber "cotton reel" thingy that is used to attach the exhaust to the footrest hanger should be reserved in position from that used with the original (stock) exhaust, i.e the metal shoulder of the cotton reel insert should adjacent to the Allen bolt head and not against the footrest hanger. This did not seem right to me because if the exhaust is attached this way then the exhaust attachment bracket will bear directly against the footrest hanger (instead of being isolated by the rubber thingy), and vibration will be directly transmitted to the exhaust. Am I wrong????

It really is just a case of taking the old stuff of and replacing it with the Remus stuff?

Use the exhaust clamps that Remus supply with the Y-piece and you "may" need to remove the spacer on the exhaust to Y-piece section as it "may" not clamp down enough?

Most are ok to be fair, but its just something to watch out for.

Regarding the ali spacer, I inserted mine so that the shoulder was against the hanger bracket, apply a little amount of grease to it to ease it in a little better and help it move about when in service...on errrr Matron!

I did it this way because I could not get the can to align enough to avoid possible heat damage to the pannier, which is the opposite way to what Remus suggests.

I cannot see that it makes that much differance myself, other than if you mount it like they suggest, then the exhaust bracket on the can will actually hit the hanger bracket over a period of time, causing it to fret and rub the paint of?

By the time the bolt and packing washer are added inside the ali spacer, it all sandwiches together, so there is no gap anyway. So this endorses (to me anyway?) why it does not matter which way round it fits in?
As for replacing the mounting bolt, I never had any other bolts when I bought mine, just use the OE one with a small dab of thread lock to secure it?

BTBR, thanks for that.

The replacement bolts (& nuts & spring washers) I was referring to in my original post are for the ns pillion footrest mounting plate attaching it to the frame, and not the allen bolt securing the silencer to the frame through the rubber bush. I guess that these replacements are provided because the original bolts may become loose through increased vibration when the Remus can is fitted?

Regarding fitting the original clamp (mine has a heat shield welded to it) to the silencer/y piece connection, I found this a bit fiddly to fit, solution was to have the clamp half on the silencer then feed both over the y piece, if you see what I mean.

Remus

Hey Alan you ready to sell me that Y piece and can you were thinking of fitting?

:D

Remus can

I've just finished fitting my GS' xmas prezzie, A carbon Remus Genesis racecan, I refitted the mushroom shaped spacer the original way as opposed to the attached picture as it aligned the can better and with the clamp tightened (original one with heatshield fitted) it is just blowing slightly, although I found it also did this after removing the original can (to fit a 'y' piece) and needed a bit of technical 'jiggling' to seal it again.
I haven't taken it out yet but the the noise is 100% better although one of my neighbours came out to see what was making the thudding noise looks like I will need to gently roll away when I'm in shifts later this month :)
