Help needed,

My good lady wife has bought me a Remus end can for my 1200GS,

I heard all sorts of things about having to "remap" the engine. Is this really necessary?

I'd appreciate any comments you guys have on this one. Oh and a Merry Xmas to everyone:)

No, if it's just the end can it'll be fine. Bung it on and enjoy the nicer sound. If you want to make it go better invest in a set of aftermarket headers without the cat'; that frees up a few extra horsepower. At that point it probably would be beneficial to remap the fuelling but it's not crucial......according to Remus. :nenau

FWIW, I did an indeterminate number of miles on my '04 GS with, initially, a Titanium Remus Revolution can on it and subsequently, a full system. I've since transferred the whole system onto my '07 bike and am plotting about how to remap the fuelling.

So the short answer is, especially if you're fitting just the can, bung it on and ride it.

I agree with Schtum that you're not likely to have any issues (that's one thing lambda sensors are good for), but for the sake of £40, I'd get it checked out anyway. If there are any issues (admittedly very unlikely), they'll show up. And if not, you'll at least have a dyno printout to give you peace of mind :thumb

Ran my 05 1200GS and now my 06 1200GSA both with Remus 'full systems', supplied from new by BuMW. No remapping on either bike, with now a combined mileage of over 45,000.
