first, there must be plenty of gs'ers out there on bmw's own insurance. and some of those nust have fitted aftermarket exhausts. has anyone had any problems with the insurance cover? this cropped up as a result of one of my other threads.

assuming i sort that out .......

which one? sebring or remus? (or a.n.other)

i don't want LOUD, i'm more interested in grunt. the advice seems to be just change the y piece. if so, which 'y'?

ian

Dunno about the insurance, but fitting the Y is the easiest way to get the extra mid-range you're looking for.

Quality-wise, Sebring and Remus are made in the same factory. Sebring are cheaper, and Bracken (UK Sebring supplier) are doing GSClub discount.

I bought a remus road can and y piece. I tried the y piece with the standard silencer and there was a noticable improvement. I added the titanium silencer to little noticable effect (but significant weight saving). Ride mag did a dino run with y piece and race can with a significant raise in power and torque (cant remember how much, I think about 5 hp). The titanium can attracts tar and scratches easily, in retrospect I should have fitted the aluminium one.

Regarding insurance. BMW insurance wanted to see the type approval certificate (that comes with the silencer). There was no extra charge for the road can.

There is a rise in noise levels with the road can, I would not want it any loader. It is not intrusive on long journeys, but still sounds more like a big twin should. The y piece is a must have, the silencer a nice to have. Hope this helps.

Ian,

I've just arranged my 1150's insurance via Devitts (the BMW scheme) and told them about my Sebring Y piece and road legal silencer. They have not loaded the premium at all (standard rates, they said) and beat Bennetts by £25. They have also included protection of my no claims bonus!!? Excellent, I say.

£267pa and they haven't requested sight of any certificate, which is good because I got it S/H and don't have one.

thanks

thanks for the tips

i'll see what prices i can dig up.

Interesting stuff guys, you say you have notified them about your "Y" piece? I wanted to get a complete underseat system made but they said a big NO to that!
