Ok so in about 2017 i think it was I bought a 16mm Almax chain and the matching lock and declare it as a security device each year on my insurance renewal (no idea how much it reduces the figure by but got to be worth something).

So anyway I got thinking earlier is my chain classed as a gold or a diamond standard, so had a look for their website to find out and it doesn’t appear to be there any longer so does this mean that if they have ceased trading will the insurance companies no longer recognise the products I wonder?

Also I’ve got a Litelok X1 that is classed as sold secure diamond standard but after hunting for quotes for another bike recently I noticed the X1 wasn’t on the list of recognised locks.:nenau

Have you asked your insurance company the question you are asking us?

So with hindsight it would have been better to go with a mainstream company like Oxford or Abus.

The Almax would be better quality still.

If I were in you, I wouldn't bother declaring it. I mean, try, but the savings are most probably negligible.
One of my bikes is chained to the floor via a massive Pragmasis chaing + pin that goes through the frame.
I do not declare it in the (near-impossible) case that the bike is not chained down when parked at night in the garage... and having it affect the policy. Same on all the others, I just declare the disc lock (out of habit) that I always use even for super short stops. The price difference in my case was near zero. Not even worth the hassle to go through finding the chain/anchor/lock model with the insurer.

You can normally only declare two security options on online applications

When i spoke to my insurer, i declared the disclock & Datatag thingy

I mentioned the Oxford HD chain, which they were happy to change one of the other options too.

Then she mentioned, if you specify the chain, then it must be all times , and chains are heavy buggers to be lugging around if your just nipping to starbucks

Better off to add undeclared security options for when at home, as then there not subject to insurance T's & C's

This, really. You get a tiny amount off for declaring locks and security, but if your bike is stolen without any of the security you’ve declared then the insurer won’t pay out.

I never declare anything that’s not permanently fitted to the bike.

Pragmasis were shutting up shop I read earlier this year. So taking what Wessie said above, their chains may drop off approval lists.

Still on as of today though 👍
