Hi All,

I've just picked up a second hand Remus System for my 1150 GSA, comprising of:-

Y piece de cat and end can.

Just a quick question, is it a straight forward job to fit, or do I need any special tools or lifts etc.

Also will the bike need re tunning ie. exhaust sensors etc?

Many thanks in advance :beerjug:

Just fit it. No special tools. Unless you count a big hammer to seperate the parts.
A total of 6 bolts and nuts to be undone = two exhaust clamps, two cat bolts, one silencer bolt, one silencer shield/clamp.
And the lambda sensor. .

You should have the remus clamps with your Y piece. The original clamps are too large and you can't tighten the downpipes to the Y piece.

Fitting the end can and Y piece is far too noisy for riding long distances and offers no extra performance benefits. :D

But it sounds soooo good:)

Make sure you crack the lamda sensor nut with the Cat still in place.

If the standard can won't budge use a rubber mallet to loosen it off.

Enjoy:thumb

Should be an easy job. Lots of wd40 on the clamps the night before you start. Remove the end can, the clamp can sometimes sieze shut. If it jams shut, loosen the nut all the way till it is flush with the end of the threads and use a pair of mole grips to apply pressure fom the end of the nut to the end of the clamp and it will open .
Find the cable from the lamda and release it from the clips that hold it to the engine, drop the cat and loosen the lamda sensor(22mm open end spanner) and turn the cat around as the sensor unscrews, don't let the cable get too twisted. Loosen the clamp on the balance pipe at the front of the engine to allow a wee bit of movement, it will make it easier to mount the y pipe. Refit lamda by turning y piece around as it screws in. It's now just a case off fitting the ypiece to the headers and refitting the can and tighten all the clamps, don't tighten things up until everything is fitted.

You can now enjoy the sound of your engine.

:blast

Twist the lambda probe 12 times in an anti clockwise direction before screwing it into the cat.

When it's screwed in the twists will be gone. :D

:D How many blondes does it take to screw in a lightbulb?....300.....one to hold the bulb and the other 299 to turn the room around :D

Many thanks for all your advice Chaps :beerjug:

I,ll crack on with it next weekend and report back :thumb

Steptoe spake thusly > Fitting the end can and Y piece is far too noisy for riding long distances and offers no extra performance benefits.

The guy who sold me my Remus swore blind it gave an extra coupla HP :P

Removing the cat was the best move - saved weight (as did the Remus by the way) and (mebbe, it is supposed to) improved fuel consumption.

The end cap came off the Remus last year so I repaired the carbon (carbon cloth and superglue off've ebay, £6 in total) - cut cloth to size and apply with a few dabs of superglue. Once it's really in properly in place, soak the whole damn lot in superglue. Sets rock solid. Followed by a trimming and re-drill the rivet holes - jobs a good 'un) - repacking (£10 from someone or other online) made it a bit gentler in tone.

Lamda was a bit of a pig - I did indeed do it Steptoe's way. Also, clamps seize up big time. I, somewhat optimistically, use a dab of grate-blacking in the hope it'll stop 'em rusting away and seizing up again.

All in all it worked for me... not too noisy, a bit lighter, cooler (that cat don't 'alf burn 'ot) and an easy enough job such that I could do it with some confidence.

Re the Lambda sensor, why not just pull the tank back to expose where it connects into the loom & disconnect it. After farking about about trying undo it in-situ I found it much easier & quicker to disconnect it this way.

I have a little black box on my 1150GS called a Remus Powerizer but I never see much comment about them anywhere? I bought the bike secondhand with this already fitted. I have just a Remus can, no Y piece.
I was guessing it is a re-tune thing for Remus exhaust systems?

perfomance enhancer

Sounds like another thing like the bloke recently jailed for selling bomb detectors comprising of an epmty box with knobs on.

Could be, but it seems to make some kind of difference. When I disconnect it the surging is worse.

But you've got me wondering how much that little box would make on eBay?

Ok pleased to confirm the exhaust system is now fitted:beerjug:

I bought it used off ebay and it comprises of a Remus Y Piece (decat)

and a GPR Stainless end can.

It was all fitted yesterday (with a little help from my local bike mechanic, the old system was seized together):eek:

Today I have just ridden about 100miles to test ride and :aidan

1/ Its much lighter than the heavy original system.

2/ The engine revs noticeably quicker and smoother.

3/ The sound (with baffles removed) is really "barking"

4/ The new system has tidied up the look of the bike (no more ugly cat)

All in all I'm really pleased and thanks for all your advice :bounce1:bounce1
