These new bikes need feckin MOT from the showroom.

Wheres the PDI MANAGER ???

Getting a little concerned about mine too. A 2017 GS Rallye with a build date of 28-06-2017. Its only done a couple of thousand at the moment, but I've got 2 big trips planned for this year. When I start tapping the spokes on the rear wheel I seem to get a very varied selection of pings, pongs, & pangs, not very comforting at all. The front is not too bad. I think a trip to the dealer is not far away. This is now my seventh GS, all with wire wheels, never one bit on concern with the previous 6.

If you're just doing on-road stuff. Buy some GS Alloys second hand off eBay. Keep looking as they pop up now and then.

I got mine with Tyres for £600 (tyres were nearly new and worth £200 on their own). They've been great through Winter as dead easy to clean as well.

Alloys are better for long road trips

Thanks Warlord, but I'm not going off-road, but what I do expect is that a £17k bike should be safe to use and that I should not have to look for alternative wheels because mine could be potentially dangerous. I don't think that is too much to expect.

Oops! - mis-read your post. Off-road on on-road, it's all the same, - On a new bike your wheels should be safe to use

100% agreed.

I bought alloys for convenience. Spoked wheels should be safe from showroom.

My GSA Rallye (18) falls in the dodgy spoke VIN number range, Ive made a point of them checking them when in for its 12K service next week. Hope they do change them, my cat pissed up the rear.

I’ve just bought another GS and the dealer claimed 18 plate bikes are where they are identifying the biggest issue. Six spokes or more indicating a problem results in a new wheel under warranty so they claimed.

Is it only 18-plate bikes that are suspect? What's the VIN number range Onahi?

AFAIK its 18 only ?
my dealer confirmed my bike was bang in the middle of the Safety check VIN number. They wont call it a recall LOL
Contact your dealer, they'll tell you Mallard

if mine were in the middle, I'd insist they swap them out... you've only got 2 of the feking things on a bike!.. they need to be right!!

if they wern't lose yet, maybe you could help them on thier way a bit ;)

Ha ha I did think that,......
I was told about this mid last year. But it hasn't bothered me in the 12K I've done since. I ping them now and then... More then than now. If they get replaced then so be it. Im happy with them. The ping test is good.

but not right good having an adventure bike you're scared to go adventuring on... it would play on my mind if i was intending a 3K into Europe for sure.

that said, if you catch them in time you can just re-nip them... maybe thread lock would help... do they undo or is something else happening??

Im not worried about it.
The official word is that this can only happen if you're doing extreme off roading. Its a bad batch from the supplier.

Have to agree with beaver on this Nige, a spoke is a spoke and the bike should be perfect a 100%, how the hell can BMW say its OK onroad, but not as safe offroad, for an offroad GS Rallye...:blast my bike would be in their garage until they changed the wheels out, obviously depends on how people like to stand up to the bullies, would be standing on the forecourt telling everyone who walked in, bikes are not safe, bet they change the wheels in 10 minutes, but I have alloys so I will save my soapbox scenario for later.........;)

LOL... once put a sign in my Freelanders windscreen and parked it outside Farnells because they refused to do some warranty work... they were soon on the phone :yelrotflm
