Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has replaced their engine, frame, mounting, and other ancillary bolts?

The bolts on my bike are no better than any other manufacturers, they seem to have some light plating/coating, but they soon start to look shabby and sort of detract from the rest of the bike. I've carried out a few online searches to try and find something like a complete bolt replacement kit in nicely machined stainless steel or titanium but the sites I've found don't describe their products very well, or to be selling themselves?!

Before I start ringing around these companies to find out exactly what they are selling, I just wondered if anyone has replaced their bolts for something more resilient to our lovely weather and would be good enough to give me their recommendations.

Best regards

Ash

Sorry, forgot to mention... mine is a 2014 Adventure.

If you want a kit ready to fit try Chris Shaw engineering. Not cheap but nicely finished.
If you don't mind doing a bit of homework and drawing up a list of exactly what you need you can save a bit of cash by searching on ebay for stainless fasteners.
For example I recently replaced the bolts on my GS engine cover. A 'kit' to do this is anywhere from £10 upwards, (12 or 13 bolts iirc) but a bag of 50 bolts of the right size is £6 delivered- smaller quantities are available if you don't need any spares. Not massive savings but the gap grows when you start looking at the bigger bolts such as caliper mounting bolts etc.

I did this on my first gs 2006 which seemed to easier to get , it really finish the bike off IMHO.
but it was personal , i remember technical experts of this parish condoning swapping the manufactures cheap crap for stainless at the time , quoting shear strengths torque settings etc .
I know the the heads are different nowadays on the newer models and not being technically minded if i found somebody selling the complete set like my 2006 I would jump at the chance

Thanks guys. Chris Shaw's look quite good but was wanting something that looks a bit more techie than the plain Allen type heads. I can't for the life of me remember where I got them, but I aquired a set for a previous bike and they had shoulders turned on to them and had slightly conical heads - they were so nicely made, they were good enought to put into a display cabinet as examples of engineering excellence! I'm after something that is either stainless or titanium (not fancy coloured) to keep the bike looking tech. The bike has only been on the road for about 6 months from new but already the bolt heads are looking very second hand. I think, steadysteve, I'll do as you suggest and have a scan of eBay... And, Stevie Allen, from what others have said, I reckon stainless or titanium will be plenty strong enough for the places I'm going to be putting them - I wouldn't use aluminium!

Cheers

Ash
