anyone fitted these or upgraded the front bulbs?

I had a Philips X-treme power bulb on my old 650 single and it worked well, there was a positive difference in light output. However on my current 800gs I have recently purchased a set of 50 watt HID's from Les Wassall (on this forum) and they are fantastic, as someone on here said "turns night into day". Wish i had done this mod earlier! Check out; http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158026

I used Philips Xtreme for the first year on my 800, much brighter than standard and well worth the £20 I paid.

However, after seeing HID's on other bikes, I then switched to the 50W HID units. You have to see the difference to believe it - instant daylight and cars move out of my way all day/night. But there again, they are £150 for a decent pair.

If you can afford it, HID's. If you can't, Philips.

A cautionary note when fitting bulbs (Only applies if you have not read the manual and are a bit thick).
Recently my wifes GS650 dip light failed, a warning light and information were displayed on the trip computer. We continued on to our destination with the headlamp on main beam. I then swapped the main bulb to the dipped but when I switched the ignition on it failed to illuminate. I replaced the bulbs in their original position, switched the ignition on and found high beam OK but nothing on dipped. Fearing the worst and assuming it was the feared lambus system and over complicated electronics I booked it in for a service and the lights checking. Luckily I tried again with a new set of bulbs and actually started the engine this time, everything worked OK,
Conclusion, its no good just switching the ignition on when making checks, the engine must be running.
I was so impressed with the actual warning display and the easy bulb access it helped me decide to buy a GS800 of my own.

thanks for your advice and help, I think it will be the phillips option this side of Christmas :)

I fittted the Halfords bulbs this time last year and they make a good value difference for the £20 BOGOF. The originals I took out come in handy as spares when travelling abroad.
