Replacement Engines

in my opinion your opinion is as useful as a chocolate fireguard if you don't have a 1200GS WC.

I suppose that you have to find someway of improving on your 15,457 posts.

I have an opinion on corrosion on new £18K + motorcycles :D

Most of my posts have been about helping people, even helping people to decide not to by £18K + motorcycles that feckin corrode :D

... or advice on problems with their 650's and 800's :D

... or riding help and advice :D

... or routes, places and countries to visit :D

... advice on Carnets and Visas for riding through Asia :D

... I welcome new members on here :D

... I buy and sell on here :D

... I spend a lot of time answering dickheads that can't think for themselves or help themselves :D

... I organise and run a National Event for UKGSer's each year (for the past three years, now THAT takes a lot of postings)

... said Event last month raised £1422.90 for The Great North Air Ambulance :P

... your post was even less helpful than a chocolate fireguard :D

What have you done?

So feck off :D

You missed off that list, telling people how many miles the bloody bike has done :blast :D

Hind sight is a wonderful thing... I did a 180 mile bumble yesterday on my 2013 TE LC. Had the time of my life, even my pal on a 2013 vfr 800 could not believe how well it went. My bike has had 10 warranty repairs, not in warranty now so will see how I get on. Keeping it for another 10 years as long as no nasty repair bills looming. After that who cares... BMW should as my next bike will be a KTM or Triumph.

10 warranty repairs ... Jeepus care to share them with us and the length of time BMW had the bike ?

That's a shameful record by any manufacturer

You can reject it, makes no difference if you own it, if they accept it though is another matter. Try and do a deal for extended warranty etc.

What they said it will not make any difference to my warranty as I still have a one year left from buying approved used bike.
What I was worried about is quality of the repair as I assumed that engine have to be stripped.
From another point they are going to do this repair at my 12000 service so can I expect part of the service cost to be covered by warranty, i.e. Oil change?

I had a new engine fitted under warranty at 26 months and when it came to having the 2 year service done I just paid for the remainder of the service minus any engine work :thumby:

It was a very small bill :D

Extended warranty does not cover corrosion..... shock.

Guys, I still need your opinion let them strip the engine or leave it as it it?

On a serious note, and apologies for above frivolity .... I'd leave it as it is :thumb

The new crankcases will just do the same anyway :blast

I certainly wouldn't want my engine pulling apart for no other reason than a little corrosion. When the 1100 four valve boxers came out (1993?) you would get a little corrosion between the front engine cover and the crankcases. The mating surfaces are machined and salt/water gets between the coating and the casings! From new, and at regular intervals, we used to rub Waxoil down along the joint, then wipe the excess off, thus sealing the joint ...

... no more corrosion :thumb

Honestly they want to replace Head cylinders and final drive case so I'm not sure how deep the engine has to be stripped

That's not too bad then ... no major disassembly of the engine, I would let them do in that case.

Two year warranty on new parts fitted.

Mmmmm, even if we take a balanced, fair view on this issue - avoiding BMW bashing for the sake of it - it still does dig up a worrying issue for some, which I can understand. Although I respect other people's opinions I, myself, spend a little time on annual ACF50 treatments and the rest of the time trying to ride the damn thing. The idea being that if it is going to corrode, try and stop it the best you can and enjoy it. Or buy another bike. And in my characteristic trait of always trying to be fair perhaps I'm too old now to worry about it and the younger riders do have a good, valid point over a bike that costs soooo much.

But personally I do think that BMW cost cutting is now possibly manifesting itself........ which is nothing but a shame.

And another concern is the availability of parts............

I'm told today that mine is to get a new engine and final drive due to corrosion. When I get back from my current 3.5 k trip to the Pyrenees. Well it would have been a shame to not use the old engine for a final burst. Due a service too!:D

Excellent news as you won't end up paying for the engine part and final drive of the service :thumby:
