I want to change the original horn on my gs1150adv for a better louder horn.

Any recommendations and links where to buy, id prefer a straight swap where existing wires will plug directly to the new horn, ive looked at the ones on nippy normans but not sure which to buy(NAUTILUS)???

Would the nautilus need a relay or is it wired using existing wires?

Thanks

Stebel Magnum is a straight swap - no messing around like its bigger brother - and loud enough. 136db (OE is 110db) and about £14 (or less) Halfords always have them. (simply disconnect and then unbolt the original - and replace. thats all there is to it)

The Nautilus isn't at all straightforward and unless you think you absolutely MUST have the loudest horn possible... a waste of money IMHO.

On the 1150, there isn't really any way to get the right horn connector, you're going to have to cut the loom. Don't worry about swapping the old horn back - it's rubbish and a new horn's not worth enough to want to take off the bike when selling.

There's just enough slack in the loom to fit the Magnum if you cut the connector off close to the horn and crimp the new connectors on the remaining wires, but you will need to cut the sleeving back to allow you to peel the wires back. If you do a search on here, there's a thread which covers it, with pictures :thumb2

Tip - try and use good quality crimping pliers and crimps for the job.

I'm amazed that the 1150 is so different. none of that is necessary on the 1100.

Double magnum

I managed to get a double stebel magnum on my 1150, can't remember exactly how much but was on offer from NN if I recall:thumb

I know it's not double the loudness but it certainly gets attention:beerjug:

I've got the Stebel Nautilus compact stuck in were the ABS pump would be if I had one (not that I want one.) Not to much of a job to wire through a relay, and it gets peoples attention when needed. Its not much louder than the Stebel Magnum, but I love that twin air horn sound.

Horn

Nautelous is good pain, to bolt on the bike, someone posted on here a short while ago how the split one and connected it back with a bit of tube made it much eassier to install. Run a pair of thick cables from the battery to the new horn (fuse at batter end) connect these to a relay so they switch the pos leasd and connect the two original leads from the original horn to operate the relay this will wake anyone up do be careful of trying it in an enclosed space as these are loud!!.
Dave I've got a horn! GS ( a viagra free statement.)

Is there such a thing as 'good pain'?

all that palaver sounds like a right pain!

btw on another thread it was stated that the 1150 has an alarm relay as standard.

IMO:

Only twin horns (air or mech) give the two-tone resonance needed to get attention.

Very easy to fit two Fiamm horns on the 1150, and as it has a relay already, no power issues.

For 1200, I welded to small lugs on the SS crashbars (BMW Engine Loops) and fitted two horns, had to fit a relay.

Fitted nautilus horn to my 1150 by changing connections only, but really needed to extend wiring as kept pulling them out on full lock - eventually stopped working and replaced with magnum, much better fit - found no need to add relay, just plugged in. Magnum not quite as loud as nautilus but then you don't scare yourself every time you use it!:D

Magnum arrived today........before I fit the horn I notice that on the existing wiring to the horn I have a bmw socket going to the horn. Is it as simple as cutting that socket off and crimping the 2 spades on the remaining wires and connecting to the horn??

Cheers
