I have a 99 1100GS and thought about swapping the standard indicators with these LED types, i was wondering has anybody done this? was it easy enough? and could it be done without going to an auto electrician, or back to dealer:confused:

So do I (have a 99 1100)

I did consider swapping the indicators... but came to the conclusion it was more trouble than it was worth. At the time I couldn't find any that were a straight swap.

what I did do however was fit an LED panel into the Brake light housing.. easy enough as its a straight swap. with LED outriggers that fit into the rear indicators.. and so the 'brake' light is now rather more noticeable than it was.

btw.. I have bling'd my indicators.. a little with clear smoked lenses and mirror bulbs.

Oh I know the answer to this one and it has a several options.
I fitted 4 to swmbo F650GS the other week. I used the cheap Chinese ones found here
http://shop.the2wheels.com/LED-Turn-Signals_c3.htm
I did not order the resistors as I figured they will get hot and cause other problems.
Because I didn't order the resistors I also needed a LED capable 2 wire flasher unit which on a F650GS is a sod to replace.
I fitted the LED indicators and flasher unit but when you turned on the indicator the opposite blinked dimmer in time with the side you had turned on and the telltale did not work. Off to consult a wiring diagram and it turned out that the telltale light switched polarity depending on what side was indicating.
The easiest fix for this was to put a diode in each wire and join the free side of the diodes which is then connected to the telltale, the other terminal is earthed to a convenient point. I had changed the telltale to LED as well so had to make sure polarity was correct.
And we now have functioning indicators that are small enough not to be knocked off like the oem ones when a leg was swung over the bike.

I suspect the easier option is to fit bulb replacements that should have the correct resistance to make everything work properly.
