Replacement Rear Shock

I just had a chat with Bas. He certainly knows his stuff. He is very happy to discuss exact requirements and custom build a shock. Even if the ohlins shock can be obtained a bit cheaper I will be going hyperpro because I will get a shock built for my weight and use rather than something off the shelf. Support will be easier as well. I don't fancy trying to deal with someone in the states if I have a problem.

What sort of price ?

Easiest way to order a hyperpro shock seems to be to discuss requirements with Bas then order through Calsport as they include shipping. Bas will then ensure your specific shock gets sent to Calsport. There is virtually nothing in it in the price.

The Ohlins shock was a shade over £50 cheaper than the fully adjustable hyperpro without any extras.

Looks like my shock replacement plans are accelerating, doing some maintenance on the bike thought i'd check the air pressure in the shock, normally it runs about 115-120 for me, this morning it was 82, pumped it up to 114 before battery went flat on the car:blast 30 mins later went to top up using the wifes car and the pressure was back at 84, :eek

Rossi did you have to use calsport or could you have ordered through any retailer? what did you have to say to the retailer or information you had to send in with the order to make sure you got the shock bas was setting up for you?

Cheers

IIRC calsport are the cheapest UK supplier..

Calsport are cheapest I could find. Best option is to ring up Bas and discuss exact requirements with him. Bas will then ensure your shock is dispatched to calsport when they place the order.

I haven't been able to order yet. Nearly did but with the oil light on I thought I would wait until that was resolved first. With a sizable bill on the way for the oil pump I may have to wait a little longer.

Let us know how you get on.

well its ordered :bounce1now i've got a 2 - 6 week wait depending on who you talk to :(... at least it will give me time to grease the swing arm, steering head and get my bash plate straightened out :augie

no update on the shock as yet but am glad i checked out the swing arm bearings, the swing arm came out fine but the bearings were basically held in place by mud and disentegrated, the bushes were scored as well. i hadnt noticed any problems but there you go. fortunately i bought a spare swingarm last year after i took a chunk out of mine and the bearings and bushes were good in that so the swing arm is being swapped out en masse :D

not great pictures but this was what was left:

hi am fitting my hyperpro shock and having problems routing the hose to the reservoir, can anyone who has one on their xchallenge let me know if its possible to install without the hose touching either the frame, the exhaust or the oil tank please? i can get 2 out of 3 but not all 3 so far, the least worrying is the oil tank as at least its smooth and not so hot :)

cheers

Hi all

well the shock is on and it is amazing :) Bas has done a great job the seat height is perfect for me and the bike is so stable both on and off road, i cant imagine that it can be any better!

i spoke to bas first to specify what i needed; leg length, weight, riding style and type of subframe for the mount, and then ordered a standard one from the retailer (some will try to charge you for a "non-standard" spring or length. i didnt go for the remote adjuster .. too expensive and not needed for my type of riding at the moment. the retailer then places the order on the local distributor and when they get a minimum order value the order is placed on hyperpro, thus the shock took four weeks to get to me whilst bas had it ready in a week. I did ask the retailer to reference my name and bike on the order to help bas tie the two up but whether they did or not i dont know.

fitting was fine once i sorted out the hose routing, i've since put a bit of inner tube over the frame just be on the safe side. added two full turns of preload to get to the required sag and that was it:JB
