Like most people I 've owned numerous bikes over the years and still have a Buell X1 but had always had fond memories of the various rides I'd had on the GS's from the 1100 through to the 1200.
I had my first experience in buying a factory replacement part today and it was weird.
One of the front original windscreen mounts was missing, so no probs I'll get a replacement. These are the mounts at the front of the screen with the Torx screw.
The replacement part should fit, so from a functional perspective it works but it's nothing like the original part.
The original part matches the silver frame colour (i.e. it's not black like the new part) and is threaded so there is not need for a nut as per the replacement part. It also looks universal, i.e. flip it over and it will fit on the other side.
The replacement part is black, side specific (they ordered the correct one) and has an nut to secure it as the part is not threaded.
They checked and they've ordered the correct part as per the parts list and have just assumed the 'original' one I showed them was not the factory version even though that's what was on the bike from new.
Once they're both installed it looks a bit odd when you see it.
I had a quick look on the web and other places that list the replacement part and it's the same one which the dealer ordered. They're mainly a car dealer so they had no idea why the listed part differed from the original.
It's both intriguing and annoying.
Anyone know why?
