Replacing a 2610 - Needed for Car & Bike.. what options?

Hi Folks,
My Garmin 2610, bought back in 2004 is now, well getting old, and slow and the maps are very out of date.. err 2006 i think.
It has been a truly trusty workhorse that I use in the car and on the bke.
And having been dropped a couple of times, it has always impressed me with this ruggedness.
I like the screen size and I don't want to go for anything smaller.
But I have to proffess I am at a total loss now, having not looked at GPS's options for a few years.

I want something to replace it, with a colour screen similar or slightly larger.
For use on the bike and in the car.
Though I know Garmin tend to be a good solid make, are there other makers? Or any particularly good bike options. I don't need blue tooth as I don't ride with an ear piece and won't.

IMHO it's a no-brainer. A Zumo 660.

It looks a nice unit and it appears life time map updates are available which would be nice, since last time I looked garmin map licenses were pricey.

I just noted the Montana 600 and its OS mapping function, though not a primary need, it could prove rather handy, for some future work. Though its a slightly different unit, does anyone know how the basic, routing functions etc compare?

Given I can be mr clumsy at times, and my 2610 has the scars to prove it, I kind like the idea of the rubberised protector. Looks are not an issue for me. Function and build etc are.

As a straight replacement for the 2610, the Zumo 660 is the way to go.

The Montana is a great unit. I have the Oregon and am thinking about upgrading that to the Montana (as well as keeping my Zumo 660).

But they are different units.

The Zumo is much better on the road - 3D view; voice prompts by road name; speed limits; music; junction pictorials etc

The Montana is great for off-road with limited on road. OS mapping and other rastor maps. Routable on road etc.

It's like cameras on mobile phones. Yes they work, but a proper camera takes better pictures.

Sure, there will be people that say to get the Montana. But it all depends on what YOU want out of a single GPS and how much compromise you're prepared to accept.

I am more likley to use the unit for Road work in the and on the bike.
But i can see a use for the montana, however good routing is probably a higher priority.

Lifetime mapping (life of the GPS unit that is) for £50, updated 4 times a year, is less than I've ever paid for a one off update since the days of my Quest. Godd value IMHO.

Buying a NOH Zumo 660 and the mapping subscription above you should get that for about £380 all in or there about.

You're describing my situation exactly. Can I interest you in a 2610 that hasnt been dropped and is going cheap?

Sadly not.. i want to get something newer in age and tech.. my 2610 is still going strong, just dated.

Taking the above advice and looking at a new garmin. Just will take a while to raise the pennies, as its not a top priority for the moment. But thanks anyhow. Put it up in the sale section, sure some one would want it.

Zumo 660. I replaced my Quest with one as soon as it came out. Never regretted it for a second. It has served me well both in the UK and France.
