Any tips on how to fit a new presstud? I managed to rip one off during a belly flop recently :blast

I've got all the bits to replace it but can't quite figure out how to secure it. Is there some sort of special tool, maybe resembling a rivet gun or similar? Or can you just use a parallel punch or the like to expand the brass nipple??

Does that make sense, any tips appreciated?

I had to replace the catch on my Sinisilo trousers, it was secured with a presstud backing.

if its a simple presstud a cobbers or custom leather shop should be able to do it in a few mins. My catch wasnt so simple for them but I managed to do it with a series of larger nail punched just stretching the inner out a little more each time until I could punch it over

does that make sense?

I used a set like these

A leather workers tool works fine.... luckily I inherited one in a load of leatherwork gear that my gran had....

Easy job with the right tool, but best take to a leather repair place as they will have the right tool .

Thanks for the tips guys - have to say I chickened out of the 6" nail but having seen the tool it probably would've worked! Having tried 3 local cobblers to no avail, someone pointed me to a local haberdashers which sold a kit containing the necessary tools and a lifetimes supply of spare presstuds.......for £6, result;-)

I bought a couple of these in December at Lidl for around £2.50 a set.

Perforator Set

Set contains:
-1 revolving puncher
-1 pair of press stud pliers
-1 pair of eyelet pliers
Supplied with 100 eyelets and 25 press studs

Was worth buying the extra set for the 100 eyelets and 25 press studs alone.

Used the puncher a few times for a variety of jobs including putting extra holes in a leather belt and it was fine. Eyelet pliers work fine, though havn't tried the Press studs yet.

Im after one of these but there not available in my branch :(

I bought one also, used two or three times and it's paid for it's self, Plus i got a neat little set in the outdoors shop in Chester last week. This one came with a plastic holder for the die to hold the base and the punch for making the hole plus the punchie thing for batting the stud together, about £3. Small enough to take on trips.
