My internal hoses have rotted and fuel is leaking from my breather.

I've ordered new seals, fuel filter and some 1/4" nitrided fuel hose that I hope will do the job.

A question, how do the BMW fuel hose clips work? I can't see a way of undoing the ones on the fuel lines or filter hoses. Is it a case of destroying the old ones?

Isa special tool needed to fit new ones?

Peter

I usually end up not being able to refit the old clips, I found some screw type fuel hose clips at the car accessory shop that fitted.

Recheck the pipe diameter.Niggling feeling i remember it to be 8mm.
Car spares shops can sell you the proper grade pipes and screw clips.

Cheers Col

If it's 8mm I'll have 4 metres of spare 6mm knocking around. I did measure and 6mm seemed much more like it.

I've ordered the bits from Motoworks and an online car place and we'll see.

Jobs to do, sort fuel leak (in progress), mount GPS (276C) and sort out power, sort out helmet comms/GPS audio and tank bag (looking at SW Motech).

:)

Fun times again. I realised how much I love it today.

if fuel is leaking from your breather, it'll be the thin breather hose inside the tank not the high pressure fuel hose.

It maybe loose at the internal connection. Sometimes happens when people try and a blocked filler cap drain hole. They blow through with an airline on full power to clear the blockage.

Halfords usually stock them.

You can lever the clic-r type clips off but I often end-up with whatever I'm using stuck in my hand.

Thanks Neil, both the small hoses are pretty soft and gooey. I'm replacing them both, the seals (the filler one is parted) and the filter.

Thanks for the tool link too, much appreciated.

Normal Clamps

When I replaced mine, I just twisted the BMW clips off with pliers and then used the normal screw type clamps from Halfords. I think I had to position the starting point on the new clamps so that when fully screwed they didn't snag anything but it wasn't a big job.

I recently drilled a hole in my (plastic) fuel tank - genius :blast - and so had to strip it down again to sort it out. All unscrewed and screwed back again fairly quickly.

BTW, the Quicksteel Plastic Tank Repair kit sorted the hole pretty well although I was lucky in that I could access it from the inside through the fuel pump/filter hole and so have the ugly plug of resin/putty on the inside.

Hope this helps,

Psyko

Just looking at mine.
You need a fuel hose that has the following specification -

SAE 30R10

This materialis designed for submersion into fuel.

Hope this helps
