My sight glass has a small weep of oil from the lower edge where the glass and rubber seal meet, I have a new one ready to go in, how easy is this to do?

Very simple job. You have to break the sight glass by tapping it with a center punch or screw driver. Don't hit it too hard otherwise the shattered plastic can go in to the sump. Then pull out the broken bits and the seal with some pliers.
Clean up the whole area make it nice and dry and then put some oil on the rubber seal on the new sight glass seal. Using a suitable sized socket , I think it's 17mm, tap the new sight glass into place and you are done. Take note of how flush the existing sight glass is before removing it so you know how far to tap the new one in. It's a 5 minute job.

The dot in the centre is the point to aim for, in fact its sole purpose in life.

Oil sight glass

Thanks for that guys:thumb

I guess I just lean the bike over slightly to lower the oil level against the glass before I start?

Having just read Geckos post properly there is now need to break the sight glass/plastic, just get something sharp to stick in it and pull, it will come out. something like an easyout with its tapered thread is ideal. Or something like an awl and levered out.

Don't worry about noting how far the sight glass is in the case -

there's a lip in the sight glass aperture - you can't knock it into the engine, so just hit it in, till it seats .
