Replacing R1200GS fuel filter help

Am in the process of doing 36k service and a few refurb jobs on the 1200GS at the mo.
Have managed most things so far ok.

I am in the process of making the ABS filling adaptor as per Jim Von Bader's pictorial guide, (well done that man ) and will be attempting to change the brake fluid.

Has anyone replaced the fuel filter and does anyone have any advice / pictorial guides available?

The 1200 does not have a replaceable fuel filter cannister like the 11xx's.

There is an integral gauze filter in the pump but as far as I understand it is not a service item.

Hmm, odd, 'cos Pidcocks sold me one.

It was a big worry when the 1200 came out, because changing the filter meant changing the pump. Anyhow it does not seem to be needed.

Motorworks very happily sold me one too and it's still sitting in me garage as it's for the 11xx's. Like you, I bought one in readiness for the Big Service only to discover it's superfluous. If you can find a workshop manual diagram you'll see there's nuffin in the tank. I can only assume they are either taking the p**s or 1200's are still too new for this kind of info' to start becoming common knowledge.

Oh dear - Bare in mind the the guide is for americans - Being british you'll have a grounding in the basic functions in life i.e. how to pour fluid from a container/beaker without any problems

Well i've managed to do a few over the last few years without any problems so far.

The funnel makes it easier to do without spilling fluid everywhere, plus you can gauge how fast the fluid is dropping. You can also wait for tiny pour bubbles to rise before bleeding the pump unit.

The pump sucks from the bottom of its own reservoir, not much chance of introducing air even without the funnel if you bleed slowly and pour quickly enough to maintain the fluid level.

I prefer to use the funnel method myself.
