Hello all.

I've got a bastardised 1150GS that has a matt white GSA SE tank on it.
I want to get the wheels powder coated and I'd like the colour of the tank decals to match.

How do I -or- Can I remove the current black and blue decals?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Patience and strong fingernails will help ;)
Removal of the original stickers is best achieved with a little heat, use a hair dryer or heat gun to gently warm the letters and one at a time begin peeling at one corner or edge, too much heat will make the vinyl stretch, too little and the vinyl will snap in small pieces, with a little practice I'm sure you will find a happy medium. Finally, use alcohol wipes or methylated spirit or similar to remove all traces of any adhesive left from the original stickers before applying the new ones.
I hope that helps, have fun ;-)

Tank Decals

Some spilled gas has left me looking for replacement decals. I've read things about the HumVee product. Is the Mandarin (yellow) decal for the 1150 GSA a color match for the OEM?

Thanks...

Yes the Yellow is an exact match for the OEM 1150GSA decals, never heard it referred to as Mandarin though, I thought that was a paint colour option on the non ADV 1150GS :nenau

Thanks for confirmation! :thumb

The Mandarin color code is what they use on their parts fiche here (and maybe there?)

16 11 7 671 369 LEFT FUEL TANK STICKER - MANDARIN/SI

When I use low heat from a hair dryer or gun to remove slowly, as you've described on a different thread, is there a faint outline left on the tank to help out with the correct placement of the new decal?

Thanks again,

Ron

There may be a feint outline left after removal of the original, take a few pics and measurements of the originals to help with alignment of the replacements as you may see the feint outline of the original through the new decal if not positioned exactly on top, there may be minor differences in size and spacing between new and old so best to start with a clean sheet in my opinion :thumby:

Good idea..and now that I have you here, I don't ride at night as a rule so I have always assumed that my OEM decals (mandarin/yellow ??) had the GS in white but when looking down on it today they appear a bit silver so is the OEM GS letters reflective and as such I should be ordering the reflective option from you? ....if that makes sense

No OEM items are not reflective they are standard vinyl, unless your bike has aftermarket (ours or others) reflective tank graphics on :confused:
Easy way to find out is to take a pic at night with flash enabled on your camera, if reflective they will reflect like this;

Try a stripe removal rubber wheel. Its not a joke google it. I looks like a circular rubber with a drill attachment. I've used one many times to remove stickers from plastic fairing panels and tanks, it removes the sticker and glue and causes no damage. Much easier and quicker than hair dryer or hot water.
