I planned a route in Mapsource. Then I downloaded the completed route onto my 550

While riding the route, I missed a turn and I had to take short detour.

The 550 then rerouted me on a completely different route to the destination.

(for those who know the area, I had planned a route from the Ace Cafe to Henley on Thames along the A40 then via Marlow then the A4155. Where the A40 becomes the I missed a turn and instead of taking me back to the route I had planned, it wanted to take me via the A412 and then through Slough -> A4, etc.!!)

How do I force the 550 to take me back to the original route after a missed turn / detour?

Mehul

Change your recalculation mode on the Zumo from Auto to prompted. Then you can decide what you want to do.

Saying no to recalculation will leave your route unchanged on screen. The Zumo can't get you back onto the route - you will have to do that by zooming in or out on screen so that you can navigate yourself back to the route.

Once back on the route the Zumo will pick up on the navigation again.

Simples...

i would at least expect the gps to follow the planned route and if you deviate, take you back onto the planned route at the next possibility.

if its a normal i want to go from A-B, then fair enough but if a route or track is uploaded then it should guide you along it.

but again its asking too much of a zumo :rob

It depends on how you plotted the route initially and possibly on the routing preferences you set.

If you used lots of waypoints (electronic beacons, past or through which you have told a dumb device you MUST pass) it will keep trying to route you through them.

If you have also set your preferences to favour cart tracks (or motorways) then it will do it's best to heed to your wishes.

One has to ask how, having set a route down some fairly straightforward roads you still managed to miss a junction despite having a GPS :blast :D:D :beerjug:

Turn autorecalculate to OFF or PROMPTED and then go out, using the device and playing with it. Practice makes perfect..... Or, in the case of Garmin, very nearly as mine has a bad glitch.

The route was quite simple, Mapsource chose the route and then I dragged it in two places to fit what I wanted to do.

The only thing set to avoid on the 550 are "Autobahns". And it's set to fastest route - which is what it tried probably tried to do, though going through the center of Slough is not the fastest way!

What I can't figure out is why it did not take me to the 2 points I had dragged the route to.

The reason I missed a turn is that one of the bikers I was with needed petrol!

In a similar vein, I planned a route, then inverted it and downloaded both. Once on the return trip, I reached a roundabout I'd travelled straight ahead that morning, then the 550 turned me left! When I realised, I u-turned back to the roundabout and it 'recalculated' me back onto original route :nenau

I've just checked and the route shown on my Mapsource is a direct reversal of the outward route, why would it redirect me 90 degrees off route?????
