Results of test ride

My trusty F650GS was in for a service so I borrowed a new Adventure for a few hours. Handling was superb. Boxer engine has so much more poke than my weedy single. Not as good off road as the 650GS though. Main problem was that I could not find a bit of quiet air behind the screen even though the screen was huge. Anyone else have this problem? I'm 6'1".

650GS felt like a toy bike when I rode it home after the service!

Bear in mind that "Off-road" to a Londoner simply means up the kerb and onto the footpath.

We've got main roads in worse condition than some of your forest tracks. Where do you think Simon Pavey learnt his skills? He's from South London. Paris Dakar my arse. Let's see you do Peckham Dulwich. Much more of a challenge. And the natives aren't as friendly.

Of course! 'Twas but a meare green lane but it performed admirably. I look forward to trying the same test with the Multistrada and seeing the look on the salesmans face when I take it back.

No such thing as "quiet" air on a GS for 6 footers plus!!

You can get rid of the buffeting but you can't ride without earplugs. It's a noisy old bastard of a bike but it's bloody good fun, once you learn to live with it!!!
(and you do...)

How do you get rid of then? What's the best screen for a six footer?

Noisy screens

I'm 6'6" and the Adv screen is far better than the standard. You get constant smooth air flow, not the buffetting of the standard. I'm thinking of trying one of those Touratech screen extenders though (cause i fancy one of those Arai tour x helmets) as it would be nice to have a lttle less wind if possible.

I tried the standard screen fully back which was better for me, then I took it off completely which gave a fantastic result but looked shite (IMO) so I went for the highly recommended MRA Vario which in the fully down/down position gets rid of the buffeting and looks good on the bike.

Don't bother with the Touratech extender - does nothing and looks crap. I've fitted a Laminar Lip on my Adventure screen and it DID make a big difference - easy to cruise for hours at 95-100mph (indicated), which I couldn't do for long before.
Just fitted a new ZTechnik tonight - riding report soon...

I'm 6'1'' and find quite a bit of turbulence on the Adventure. Always get an interesting weave going when following trucks and large vans as the airflow alternates from hitting my left shoulder then the right and back again which translates to a slight movement on the bars.
