For a variety of reasons my GS has been sitting abandoned and unloved in the lockup for the past 7 months or so. I left the battery in it for far too long and it's knackered, so I've just replaced it with a Yuasa one. (In passing, if anyone local wants a new Yuasa for their 1200, get in touch. This isn't a For Sale or a Vendors matter, because I'll be doing them at trade price.)

So this evening after replacing the battery and recalibrating the throttle position sensor, I was pleasantly surprised that the bike sprang into life at the first press of the starter. I'm used to that sort of reliability from my VFR but surprised at the GS doing the same.

However.....it appears my Stebel Nautilus horn hasn't fared so well. It's not working. I can hear the relay clicking but there's not a cheap from the horn. Has anyone else had one that's died? Do they do this? I've barely used it but it was supplied by a local vendor who has since gone bust. Are they repairable? Any advice appreciated.

TIA

Try pressing the horn button while tapping it, as daft as it sounds it may work, also you could take it off & connect it to a known fully charged battery, like your car with something like jumper cables & again bash it, tap it on the ground. Your new bike battery will not be fully charged unless you've had a charger on it or taken the bike for a good run. :thumb2

No, the battery's fully charged. After filling it with acid, I put it on an intelligent charger until the light went green. I s'pose I should have checked it with a multimeter but....:nenau

I did wonder if a good electrical jolt would start the horn speaking again. I'll certainly try what you've suggested.

Schtum, before deciding the horn is goosed , check power is getting to the horn. I know you said the relay clicked but I have had a relay clicking in the past but contact was not being made within the relay.

Failing that my air-horns on the VFR packed up regularly due to winter gunk. A liberal skoosh with WD40 into any available orifice and pressing the horn button a few times usually freed them up.

Good luck

Aye thanks Ian, good point. I'll put the multimeter on the feed to the horn and check that it is getting power.
