Returning Gser..er RTer

Left this forum three years ago when I sold my GS but now returning having spashed out on an ex-demonstrator RT1200LE after I decided adventure bikes were no longer my thing and a tourer was the way to go.

I'd appreciate any (polite) advice that might make it easier for my wife, who is only 5' 2", to get on the pillion. I have the BMW topcase fitted which means she can't swing her leg. Any tips or patents methods anyone can share please?

Just the same way as usual ...
left leg on foot rest (left pillion one normally !!) , hands on rider , warn rider , get on , moving leg across seat (not touching of course) and down to other side. sit !!

... but at least you have bought a nice bike !!

That's what we thought, it's the "moving leg across seat" bit that's the problem due to lack of stature She needs to be a bit higher up so I was wondering if there was anything on the market that would allow the footrest to be higher? Oddly enough she finds getting on from the right side easier ( although I'm not sure about this as there's nothing to help if my leg goes) but still has to get off the left side...

My wife is also only 5'2, and she feels very guilty that she has scuffed the seat on my 2010 1200rt with her boot.
In fact she was horrified to find she had scuffed the seat when we test rode the bike, so said I had to buy it as she had marked the bike

LOl, I've just sold mine (RT LC) to go back to a GSA LC. Absolutely loved touring my RT, you'l love it!

Not much help, but my wife is 5ft 1 and has no issues getting on the pillion, so it must be a technique thing

You could always get a cover for the pillion seat. Or get a taller wife!

My wife is only 5' 2" and weighs nowt and whilst I know I shouldn't I help her get on first with the bike on the side stand using riders pegs and saddle before helping her onto the pillion seat then I have to do a nimble manoeuvre cocking my leg over the rider saddle between her and the fuel tank before picking the bike up off the side stand.

My wife is around 5ft 2 wearing boots...., but she has never scuffed my seat or my pannier .....I don't take her pillion . Bikes are my " space" . She has her " space" doing her things

I had a similar problem and just let her get on first using the rider pegs whilst the bike is on its sidestand. I then throw my leg through the gap and we are away. Works fine but I am 6'2" which sort of helps.

It is sort of like selecting a wife .............. a bit of trial and error

My son used to get on my 800gsa by climbing on first followed by me. I'm not 6 foot and I managed it. My son is 13 now and is bigger than me. He says. JJH
