While I've got the headlight and its shell off my 1100 to change a broken indicator stem, I remembered a duff tacho bulb which I've dug out of its hiding place.

Trouble is I can't find out a rating so I can buy another one.

Anyone know what I need to be asking for?

Thanks Vern.

12v 1.7w it turns out from the factory manual (not with me when I asked the question yesterday my Clymer was buried due to a garage reshuffle - guess I should have expected a Tarka response though  ). I'll see if Halfrauds stock them on the way home.

They are standard "tiny capless" dash bulbs, dont make the mistake I did and waste a load of time getting hold of some that look like the originals, the originals look quite a bit larger than the replacements, you will need four in all.

And I would guess, make sure the bloody things all work before you reassemble it. :thumb2

I have the one I took out with me - I'll try to match it up in Halfords today and I'll buy a few if I can find them. I've located them in Motorworks but they want £2.70 each which seems a bit on the pricey side (but that might be the going rate :nenau ). I've just put it under a microscope at work - there's a very faint (16 year old) legend on the bulb which my crap eyes couldn't see at home.

I'm just glad I remembered about the duff bulb while I was in the middle of the surprisingly involved amount of dismantling required to fit the new indicator stem  I'm actually wondering about replacing all the instrument bulbs while it's in bits, but I'm not sure whether that's overkill...

Replace them ...

... all while you're in there, with blingy coloured LED ones; as cheap if not cheaper then originals, I think Red/Green/Blue are available but you'll need to spend some time with the search function to find which ones you need.

Be careful with these I put them in my 1150 and they are so dim it's difficuklt to read the dials in the dark, plus you get e mails every five mins from the
suppliers.

Bought mine from a motor factors in West Wickham - cheaper than normal bulbs, bright enough (at night I don't want glare off the clocks). Mine are red and am pleased with price and performance. Once you've lost all your skin getting these bastards out and in you don't want to be rushing back in there!

And they didn't have them, although they did have 1.2w versions which had the same terminal end but a slightly smaller diameter bulb. I risked one of those (for the princely sum of 45p with my trade card :) ) and it fits fine. I can't tell that it's 0.5w dimmer than those already installed so I'll leave it until another one blows.

All back together now with its new 'insulation tape free' indicator stem.

That is what I was trying to say in my earlier post:blast
Are you sure about the non taped indicator ?

I thought that might be the case - was there a reason you didn't fit the smaller ones? The one I bought clicked nicely into the grey rubber bulb holder jobbie (the terminal end is the same size).

Yep - definitely tape free ;)

I did fit the smaller ones, pennies from the motor factor, Halfrauds wanted over a quid each for the same things packaged for bikes.

did the same deal with the HI Beam Indicator light recently, only bulb I could find was the smaller size, no probs so far.

Ah - gotcha.
Sorry, been a long day my brain is fried :blast

They were £2 from halfrauds but the trade card bought it down to 45p (great for consumables like bulbs, wipers and oil etc). Had I not suffered brain fade and worked out what you meant, I'd have bought a few. Ah well, at least I know how to get at them now ;)

I brought blue ones "'cos they looked nice"! but they were too dull, a job to read the speedo in the adrk.
