Hi there - appear to be in a minority here. Loads of posts about changing stock exhaust to aftermarket exhaust whilst I want to do the reverse!! I have a 2005 R1200 GS which I bought with cat removed and a Remus aftermarket exhaust with no baffle. I found the noise unbearable and very "un BMW like", so contacted Remus and purchased baffle which improved things somewhat, but still rather too noisy for my liking. Recently found reasonably priced original stock exhaust and have now put this on, but yet to have the opportunity to ride the bike.

Am I right in assuming that since I have simply changed the rear silencer, there should be no need to re-map?

Hopefully exhaust noise will now have been reduced, just need to work out how to reduce wind noise, but guess that is a question of experimenting with aftermarket screens and better helmet (currently Shark R).

Thanks in advance!

Richard

No remap needed.

We'll done, enjoy your BMW, be happy that your bike no longer sounds like a wet fart in a bean can :D

I've also got a full Remus system without baffle. Never bothered to change engine mapping, when I bought the bike the dealer said the electronics could cope with almost any exhaust change, the time to worry was if a hi-flo air filter went in as well.

So your bike will be fine with a standard pipe back on. :thumb2

However, reading in these forums about the wonders that Hilltop Motorcycles can perform, I'm very tempted!

Welcome Mex.
I've found the standard exhaust silencer on my '11 GSA to be perfectly good. Sure, it's heavy but spending £500 on an aftermarket silencer in order to save a couple of kilos on an already heavy bike doesn't make sense to me. In my opinion the original looks good and it's stainless steel for the most part. I've de-catted the original headers which has changed the exhaust note a little, but it's not offensive.
As far as wind noise goes, I had a shark helmet a few years back that was very noisy (due to my head shape apparently) but now have a Shoei Multitec and a BMW System 6 both of which are much quieter. Also, I modified the original screen adjusters by filing off a couple of small plastic knobs on them that allows the screen to be adjusted in the upright position by just one more notch. Made a big difference for me, 5' 8" average build / weight / leg length etc. :):)

If you are looking at an aftermarket screen by far the best set up I found was with a Givi AF330 plus winglets. Makes an amazing difference....90 mph visor up and no buffeting. If you search on here you will find many people have found the same.

Cheers

I think you'll find the Adventure screen and winglets do very well

A tip - anyone who bought a run out Twin cam in the last few months (with the free accessory deal) would have been given the smoked screen in addition to the original clear. Some people did not bother to collect the clear set so there are a few at the dealers. Others, like me, left the clear on and stored the smoked set. Either way it shouldn't be hard to find second hand at the moment.

Just my opinion btw .....
